United Hiring (again!)

Hey Guys and Gals, I submitted my video on Oct 1. I just now, 11/2, got a call to schedule an interview. Not sure yet if its in person or zoom.
But just wanted those still waiting to know..it aint over till its over!!

Any possibility of getting hired at United without DX experience but 8 years airline experience?
I was re-reading thru this thread. Someone did mention that in one of the classes (maybe June? Aug?) that there were folks with ZERO part121 experience. But that is not to say they didn't have ANY dx experience. I know AA hires from within and NONE of those folks have ANY dx experience. They just know the AA way. What I am saying is IF you are internal, then maybe. If you are external, probably not so much.
But I do not work there, so take that into consideration.

UA does hire internal candidates. We have ex load planners, crew schedulers and flight attendants, probably some from other departments but I am not aware of them

Any flight attendants? I'm seriously considering working as an FA for a few years and transferring in to dispatch later on. The pay is pretty much the same as the regionals anyways...so at least I could travel around for a bit.

Just in general, FAs dont get selected into dispatch in as many numbers as crew schedulers, load planners, maintenance planners, airports operations. FAs dont get the same exposure to dispatch and dispatch management as these other groups. It is not impossible by any means but I would not become a FA with the expectation that you will be able to transfer into dispatch.

What F9 said -- better to be in the NOC gaining experience on the operations side of things really getting an understanding of how all the different work groups come together to keep the operation running

Can any of you UA guys or recent newbies tell me approx how long is the classroom training and then how long is the OJT/Desk training (avg).
Do they have designated trainers?
Also, I guess its dumb to ask, but is everyone wearing Suit and Tie??
Thanks.

I think classroom training is 13 weeks. Not sure about OJT. I would imagine dress code is business casual or probably even more relaxed.

Someone from UA would have to confirm!

Can confirm 13 weeks scheduled classroom, 3 days in the SIM for emergency scenarios / non normals followed by a minimum of 10 days ojt. Dress code is pretty relaxed, collared shirt / jeans / shoes.

I’ve heard that as well. I also heard that their comp check is a multi day thing? And that is no cakewalk.

Big yikes. What’s the wash out rate with their classes?
Yes, thats a valid question. Unless...They use the desk check more or less as teaching moment. They could just throw a bunch of "gotcha" situations at you or they can make it paractial yet thorough and truely assess your abilities and if needed, suggest more training. I think someone on this thread mentioned that they NEED good dxers, so they are not going to try and wash us out of the program. What manager wants to hire a h100 new staff and then begin kicking them to the curb?? Not exactly vision of success. Instead, they should try and support each person and get them on the floor asap. Perhaps a few newbies commrads could share their experiences with us.

Did I used to work in HR?..NO. But I did stay at a Holid.......

Its not uncommon for a few to need to retake portions of the knowledge portion. Sometimes even multiple retakes are necessary. They are patient and get the trainees the help they need to strengthen any weak points. If I remember correctly they said only maybe 2 have been let go since they started the hiring boom in 2021. And those two had a few professionalism issues that could've factored into the decision to let them go.
