Unions???

I get the distinct feeling that people scan my post looking for things to be offended at rather than understand what I'm really saying. That's fine. I tried. 414 read the part about the food chain, but what he apparently failed to comprehend was the part immediately following that. The core idea was that you need to look out for number one. That was all. Unbelievably poor comprehension.
I just see your avatar and I'm offended. Wheres the nose gear? And that radial engine looks dangerous!

You sound like a guy with a lot of great experience and stories in the industry and though I speak for myself I am sure we would all like to hear more of them and learn. COME AROUND MORE!

Jon is the man, and one can learn very much about the 121 industry and union pros/cons from this man over his long and vast career.

...and my core idea is that you can look out for number one, manage a company, be a boss run a business and not de-humanize the people without whom you could not grow your business.

seriously guys...if you have nothing nice to say, step away from the 'puter....this particular thread, i think, has been pretty useful...i'd hate to see it have to disappear or be closed. :)

Not that hard to guess... It's 121 supplimental and the owner is TF driver in the NHRA...

I had to Google it.

Why all the secrecy when someone is just going to say "Kalitta?"

Why couldn't someone just say it, instead of playing silly guessing games.

Thats what people seem to do around here.

I can't help but lol that...

On a different note. I really do think there are people that just hate Waco.. I don't get it. If I start a discussion on Unions and Waco has something good to add to the conversation, and uses metaphors to help his point make sense give the guy a break. Calm down and quit the personal attacks, because it doesn't add to the conversation

You have a clear enough view of reality and a temperament that would fit in well with my group. How do you look in a skirt?

You tell me. Not a skirt, but you get the idea.

Calling employees tools, motor oil, etc. is just a way for someone to rationalize his/her actions subconsciously. When you dehumanize someone, it makes it easier for you to make decisions which will adversely affect them. As most of you know already, this is the primary objective of propaganda campaigns. The Teamsters do the same thing when they bring out the inflatable rat. You guys shouldn't take it personally when Waco offers this type of insight. He is explaining how management operates and the methods they use to justify their actions to themselves. This type of information is powerful.

just because that is how it is doesn't make it right.
Thank goodness those of us who value human beings more than a quart of oil don't really mind if you understand how we function in the world...

Here's the thing, though - corporations don't actually value human beings. They can't because they're not humans. They are entities which generate as much revenue as possible for the lowest cost of goods sold.

Corporate leadership can - and do, in some cases - create cultures where employee QoL and overall satisfaction is a priority. But don't kid yourself about that culture of caring reflecting anything more than the result of an equation: it is cheaper to invest in that culture than not; turnover costs money and, as reputation scores become increasingly valuable marketing tools, reputation begins to gain some qualitative value.

The point being, corporations themselves are not ABLE to value employees unless there is a number attached to it, and it's either a revenue center or a cost center. I see pilots argue that they generate revenue for the company but that is not really the case, because pilots don't sell seats. They fulfill the contract between the buyer (passenger) and the seller (airline) but they are not and never will be in the revenue generation business.

They're in the revenue protection business.

In fact, all employees are in the revenue protection business. Some do generate revenue - that's what sales forces are for.

Point being - this is simply the way business works. Waco's comments may be harsh to the ears of some, but they mirror my own experiences and generally reflect the position of corporations at large. That doesn't make them inherently evil or greedy; it's simply what they are. You cannot rationally assign emotional motivators to a corporation and expect it to behave like a human. It can't. It doesn't. It won't.

This is why unions are appropriate in some cases, and not others. YMMV.

What a crap post this is. You should get with the program and come back with an emotional response. Doesn't have to be based on fact, and for God's sake don't make it harsh which would devalue to Oprah induced sensitivity gene that many have. Better it be based on happy, feel good rhetoric.

...and there you have it. Couldn't just let it go could ya Jim.
[modhat]keep it on topic and respectful please [/modhat][modhat]any more sparring and this thread is closed...I cut out the offending posts...[/modhat]
talk about comprehension fail
and I'm not too dense to realize that it is sarcasm towards the killbilly post, but it is you once again, pushing and pushing the edges, after repeated attempts to get you (and others) to stay on task in this thread.
