Uniform!!

Well, love it or hate it, airlines are paramilitary operations with uniforms.

Love it or hate it, it is what it is.

Besides, my employer did away with most of the non-rev dress attire code for all classes a few months ago. I don't know if it's a non-rev or someone trying out for a boy band sometimes!

And how do you know they don't? Heck, they may be going commando under those robes!

Hey, what they're wearing (or not wearing :p ) under that robe is none of my business :bandit: Just like it doesn't matter a bit if a pilot wears white boxers or a pink polka dot thong under his/her uniform pants ;)

But the judge still wears the robe, and the pilot still wears the uniform :)

well i just don't understand why airlines all over the world has the same boring uniform for pilots! lets think creative, if you were to bring some changes in your uniform then what would it be??

Tradition is a good thing. If you can't deal with conformity and standardization, then this job probably isn't for you.

Ahhhh Skybus uniforms...the forrest rangers of the sky.

Leather jackets are the worst thing to happen to the airline uniform since business casual at the bank. I'm old school, if you want to be treated like a professional you have to look like one first!

:yeahthat:

While at IAD this afternoon, I saw a crew strolling into the airport wearing red uniforms...including the FA's wearing red pantyhose. Blecccch. You couldn't pay me enough to look like a tomato! Sorry, but you just can't beat the traditional uniform (yes, including the hat!) :p ;)

Yes . . . but they are wearing the robe.:)

I love having a uniform. I think it is exciting to wear; not many people get to wear an airline pilot uniform:rawk:. . .and I don't have to decide what to wear to work.

Plus my cool threads (I guess I'm dating myself here) get to stay sharp for leisure time.

and I don't have to decide what to wear to work.

OMG that was the BEST part of wearing a uniform to work. No standing in the closet half-asleep in the morning trying to pick out just THE right thing to wear to work that day. You can get dressed in the dark, with your eyes closed, or while still 3/4 asleep and STILL be put-together. :rawk:

As boring as they are, they are part of the traveling experience. You expect your doctor to walk in with a white coat on, you expect your dentist to be in scrubs with the mask thingy on and you expect your pilot to look like a pilot.

The uniforms are outdated, but they are traditional. It's a tradition that stems from the 1930s. We can thank Pan Am for the way we look today. They devised the idea of Naval uniforms since they mostly had flying boats. That's also the reason they had white hats (what I wouldn't give for one of those).

Call me a traditionalist. Call me boring. Call me a dork. I don't care. I wear my uniform and my hat  with pride. I worked hard for this job and I take it seriously. This isn't a fashion show.

:yeahthat: Good for you--I couldn't agree more!. There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a "traditionalist." ;) I wouldn't call you "boring or dork" FWIW. :D

But remember times change, and people are always trying to change things. I would not be surprise if the current pilot uniform changes within the next 20 years in most airlines.

Who knows, people are crazy now days.

Look at JetBlue.. It's already changing...

I honestly can't wait to wear the uniform and the hat. I've always loved both. I think it would be nice if airlines started to mimic the PanAm uniform with the white hat. The white hat would be pretty cool. :bandit:
