Unemployed

(BTW Alex, "Unemployed", not "Unemployeed". You'll learn that later in grad school, but thought you might like a heads-up. :D )

Haha I realized that about two minutes after I posted the thread. I figured it would have come up earlier, but it never did. It bugs me everytime i open it.

Alex.

Re: Unemployeed

Alex: May my boys grow up to put forth the effort you have into whatever career they choose.

And if they get me a job at NetJets, that would be really awesome too. :D

Re: Unemployeed

I did 27 credits a semester, three semester a year.

Alex.

This is what I hate you for...not your 1,500 hours of free jet time.

Seriously - pursue what you want to pursue. If flying is it, then fly (but it won't be enough for you even at a major - you will probably have to get involved in some kind of work like safety committees in a union or something to feel like you are living to potential - like Doug does with the site). If you decide to not fly and pursue other things - that is great - but don't do it because of this bump in the road - you will hate yourself if you do.

Yeah, but he lived at home with his family while he was in school, so that doesn't count... I mean, what 18 year old kid wouldn't do that if he could live at home to go to school?!?

By the way Alex, if you had been more responsible and taken more years to finish undergrad, you could have learned to use the spell check:laff:

(do I need to put this here?:sarcasm:)

Re: Unemployeed

......
Positive attitude? I'm not the one who started a "woe is me" thread. ......

I am twenty years old and I have already lost my second dream job in aviation, this time after less than a month. I think it is time to find a new career path. The short story is that there are two owners, and each has his own airplane. Owner one flies his airplane 500 hours a year, and owner two flies his about 60. I was hired to fly owner two's plane for the company since it is rarely used. The only rule was that any trip in owner two's plane had to be approved by him. He denied use of the airplane to almost anyone who asked him, saying it would be busy, even if it wasn't. This made owner one mad and decided it was stupid for the company to pay me if all I was going to do was be owner two's personal pilot. Both are stubborn, so neither gave in, and I had to pay the price. I'll still do contract flying for them (I even have a trip this Sunday), but that means no more benefits and no guaranteed money. I did get accepted into grad school, so I guess I'll go get my MBA in Transportation and maybe get into the management side of flying.

Alex.

Failing to see the 'woe is me' in this thread. What I see is an individual venting about having lost a job. Venting to a group of like-minded individuals that share some of the same concerns. I suppose though just like beauty, it's in the eye of the beholder.

If an individual always puts the onus on someone else it is never their problem.

Just remember when a person is pointing at another, there are three more fingers pointed back at themselves.

Re: Unemployeed

Okay, here's one outsider's POV, then I'm outtie...

I am flabberghasted at how this thread became a thread of support for Alex in going through a challenging time into a pissing contect between Aloft and the world.

Aloft, if you started flying in 1986, I would expect that you would be able to show some sembalance of maturity due to your age. You know what? so what if someone else has done something you were not able to do, because you feel entitlement played a role in that progression. Instead of hatemongering, and skip the thread, or as you say in your first post to this thread

Dude, you're twenty years old. Quit your bitching.

Even you pointed out the fact that it is okay to seek support from a community, with the recognition that they may not be the only one in that position; yet you decide to lay torpedoes. That's awesome. (does that need a tag?)

Step away from the keyboard for a bit, and you might salvage a few beers; but keep the agression up and I'm sure folks take notice... $.02

I just had to come in here and post something.

I was at ERAU with Doug. He did not have it easy. He succeeded because he worked hard.

Furthermore, *I* would not be the success I am if it weren't for Doug.

Doug once told me, "If you have to play the game, play it the best you can." Every time some obstacle showed up or some bureaucracy got in the way, Doug told me to step back, keep my eye on the goal, and figure out how to get around the roadblock.

He talked me down off the tower several times. He still continues to be a source of support and inspiration for me. I owe Doug for a lot of who I am and what I have achieved; I know that I probably can never pay him back enough for all he's done for me.

Anyone who says Doug got where he is because he took an easy path is full of crap. Doug's had plenty of setbacks, but he's the kind of guy who won't tell you what setbacks he's had to overcome, because that's not what defines him.

Back to the main topic, best of luck CK. You're already successful at so young, and with your attitude, I don't think you'll have much to worry about. Yeah, it was a dream job, but who knows what might happen in the next few months? I've seen enough crazy cycles in aviation that you never know what might happen. I had a friend laid off by NWA in 2002 only to get hired by Continental a couple of months later at a substantially higher pay rate; had he not gotten laid off from NWA, he'd not be in the better position now with Continental. And congrats on grad school.

Re: Unemployeed

Ha, not too worried yet. I have a lot of nibbles. Just need to wait for one of them to turn into a full-fledged bite...

As part of staying positive, perhaps your sig line should say "BITE ME" -

Just a thought...

I had to leave the industry, but I still hang out here from time to time to glean wisdom like this. Most of it seems to come either directly or indirectly from Dough himself (since Chris Ford got booted)...

I believe he is wise beyond his years.

Come up north, supossedly there are a few groundschools starting in the fall. (My company won't be having one unfortunately, though on the flip side, if you end up hired and layed off again by next season you're more than welcome). I feel your pain, I'm a young guy in this industry too. You'll do fine. As for the rest of the popcorn inducing histeronics, it sucks he lost his job. There's no sense in being a dick about it, he may have had it easier or harder than myself or others but the fact that someones lifestory as of yet doesn't meet your quantized measurement of what makes life "hard" as opposed to "easy," means nothing. The future is completely unknown and a man can go from riches to rags as fast as vice versa. The economy sucks, morale is low, everyone's furloughing/firing, and the Dooooooom Apocalyptic hellscape is charring the lands with a crispy sense of irony. But guess what, it'll get better. Alex will find a job (it might not measure up to what he once flew before, but hell, we all make lateral moves), aloft will make it through the suckiness of a boring aviation gig. TXAviator will locate aviation work to supplement the money he blows on me when I show up at the club he works and he has to buy me drinks. Doug Taylor's rampantly uncontrolled blood pressure (triggered by this and many other threads) will eventually subside, and the world will go on. To Alex, sorry bud, that sucks, but for what its worth, you're in good company, a goodly collection of skilled pilots are sitting on their thumbs right now, it'll just take a little time for this to blow over, and in another year, we'll all be back to where things we're about four or five years ago. If there's anything I can do in the northern areas, as I say to most people, let me know, and I'll fill ya in. Beyond that, good luck, and keep the greasy side down.

If I could put this thread into a visual display it would look something like this. But then again....it may be more fitting as an analogy for an aviation career that appears to be pooping out based on rants and textual outburst.:whatever:
