Two Planes Nearly Collide over Pacific

A entire 600ft!!!!!!!!! Holy ass!!!!! Also, flightaware shows a climb with the airspeed dropping in his example. Last I checked, airspeed increases in a decent/dive (sans a power reduction of course). So....yeah.

No 757 I know can hold 289 people. That's around 100 more than most... Hell that's around what the old United DC-10's held..

Usually when we're out on the tracks and request a higher altitude, I'll just roll in 500 fpm so there's no hugely discernible change in engine noise or deck angle.

How 600 in 60 seconds is a plunge reeks of media sensationalism.

I wouldn't characterize this as "nothing to worry about," but it's notable that even in what is, at first glance, a severe failure of the air traffic control system on more than one level, there were no smoking craters. It certainly warrants some attention; anytime that an RA is issued in positive controlled airspace it means that someone wasn't doing what they were supposed to be doing. An RA is a 'hurry up' maneuver compared to my normal sedate pace...

Others have not been as lucky.

He got his 757 background verbatim from Wikipedia (even linked to them). They list 289 as the maximum single-class capacity, and he needs nearly every one of them (although underestimating the required crew) to reach that "deadliest accident" threshold.

I guess I understand being overly dramatic, but using shoddy Wikipedia "research" for the analysis that backs up the title of your article sums up why blogs are less like "journalism" and more like "drunk guy at the bar saying some stupid crap".
