Trump administration sides with Boeing in Bombardier dispute

Why do you guys get so defensive, esp @ian ? It's just a forum and not everyone is going to agree. I see United and to a lesser degree AA get attacked here and people don't come running to its defense. I don't think it has to do with pride of working there, it's just most see this as a forum where people argue/discourse/vent/talk.

I think it has more to do with Seggy's know-it-all, holier than thou, condescending obsession with all things Delta (and his identical approach to all other controversial issues) that rubs people the wrong way. In other words, he's trolling. And he's doing it pretty well based on the responses.

It’s just like the little boy in grade school who really, really likes a girl in class, so he is super mean to her because he doesn’t know how to express his feels.

Or, like the guy in high school, who really, really likes a girl, but she doesn’t reciprocate in kind, so he stalks her and can’t seem to let go.

So cute ... here, let me help you internet

Not really.

The fact is Deltoid Management is trying to get a good deal on airplanes.

Fine.

However, the deal they procured is from a dying airplane company who dumped planes on the market. In a similar dumping scheme, a few short years ago Deltoid Management was screaming at the top of their lungs about, suing, and spending a lot of money to try to stop. They even got employee groups involved and pilots spent a lot of time (and money) trying to stop this dumping. I would even argue the Import Export Bank isn't nearly as egregious as what Bombardier did with their C-Series dump.

Issue is Delta Management (and their pilots) think that they can go up against Boeing. While some battles have been won, Boeing is well entrenched to stop this dumping scheme (when it doesn't benefit them). They have some of the deepest pockets out there and I question how long Airbus will want to deal with this. I am simply pointing this out.

Also, @ian, this really has nothing to do with Trump. While I find it ironic that a good number of those in your pilot group supported Trump and still support him, Boeing, a well entrenched part of that 'swamp' is pulling the strings here and the Trump administration is doing as they ask. With that, this is so egregious no matter what party was in the White House I would have expected them to stop this C-Series dump from happening.

In the end, it won’t matter. Delta is just going to extend the service life of the 88s until the CSeries airframes from Alabama become available. In the interim, Boeing is jeopardizing billions in defense contracts with the Canadians and British.

Ok.

A) Still extremely hypocritical of Delta.

B) Do you really think Boeing is going to sit around and allow this to happen? The airplanes to be assembled in Alabama? Or are they going to try to tie this up in courts as long as possible? Even buy Embraer to say "if you want to buy an aircraft company this is how to do it..." and structure a deal that they know Airbus and Bombardier won't be able to replicate.

C) Canada and the British spend a penny on the dollar on what the USA spends on defense contracts. You are assuming Boeing is putting all of it's eggs in one basket here. They have multiple and the leverage.

This thread is full of win.

Delta is a good company
United is a good company

The C series was dumped with illegal subsides because the aircraft failed to sell. That isn't in dispute. Airbus had the ability to do an end run around the dumping scheme.

Delta pilots should be upset that they missed out on a huge huge windfall thanks to Canadian taxpayers. That was the deal of a century.

How is this 4 pages long?

Please explain how Boeing is going to get the US Government to impose import tariffs on a product assembled in the US with a majority of US manufactured parts.

Let’s see... Boeing’s competitor to the C-series in the deal was E190s for nearly free that no one wanted.

But sure, it’s Bombardier that is doing the dumping and has no case.
