Trouble yet again

the way i see it both the dems and the republicans dont like pilots.

GOP- doesnt like unions no matter where they are

Dems- "those pilots are the overpaid elite of america"

so whoever gets elected professional pilots are screwed.

what is cabbotage?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The exclusive right of a country to operate the air traffic within its territory.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I thought it was when another country flew domestic routes not in its own country.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think in this instance it's referring to a airline flying non-domestic routes originating and terminating in another country. Basically the Eight Freedom listed in the Chicago Conference from 1944. Damn, I passed that Aviation Legislation final, and the info is STILL stuck in my brain.

Globalization is a touchy subject - but I have to bring up 2 points:

- Atlas has a UK based operations with G registered aircraft, flying for BA.

- Compare the carriers that operate into the LHR from the US. There are 2 large US carieers, 1 large and 1 small UK carriers.

Doug I have tried to find where GB senior tried to support cabotage. I can't. Do you have a link?

I know that GW has spoken out against it. He's under a lot of pressure from VOTERS to be against it!

I don't know of many VOTERS that would want cabotage, only FOREIGNERS!

<---- Against cabotage and for W!

I love it, "Open Skies".

All we need is a dozen heavily subsidized european airlines flying US Routes.

Even people who are only into general aviation should be concerned by this, one (commercial aviation) affects the other.

The article says the industry is in favor. Why would Delta or American want to add more competitors? Sure it opens new markets but geez.

One other question, how does the value of the dollar compared to the Euro affect all of this?

Because the article is trying to make it look like it's good for everybody... Who knows what they define as the 'industry'.

Another question I wonder about. To fly in the US, would a pilot for Ryanaire have to have FAA ratings? Would a DAL [ilot need JAA ratings to fly in the EU? How hard are they to transfer etc.

No and no. I'm pretty sure that tha ICAO has a standard where they are interchangeable for purposes of international flying. Otherwise everyone who flew for Delta, Northwest, American, etc on international routes would need two sets of licenses.

Waaay past it's 'freshness date'. It was a potato in the bottom of the fridge that had begun to flower and sprout and get stinky whenever you opened the cripser.

Doug I googled and found very conflicting reports. Some liberal rags claim that GW is supporting the Jones act for maritime concerns, but just as many say he is against it. In particular, he released a statement to the Merchant Marine against cabotage in our transport service.

I can find nothing that doesn't look slanted either way.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what Congress does.

I've already blasted a few letters off.

It's going to get buried into a non-related piece of legislation because it's an election year and it would 'galvanize' the electorate. Or they'll wait until after the election year to fast track it.

DO NOT WAIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPENS
