TransPac offering $5K sign-on bonus for CFIs

IF I'm able to get this CFI done in May or June (assuming that KOMA stops hindering me with crap weather). I might try to make a run at it. Few questions though.

1. Sounds like that area is just busy in general. I'm assuming that this might not be a gig for someone who has ink drying on their cert. Would getting a healthy amount of dual time help?

2. Ok so pay... What's a average annual salary out there? Yes I know some of it depends on how much you fly cents and stuff. But is it livable? Or am I getting another gig at In-N-Out?

A new CFI would be fine, I think they want you to have your CFII though. Yes the airspace is really busy, you would just have to take the time to learn it. Starting salary is 28k, then 30k after 1 year. I think they pay more if you have your MEI. Phoenix is livable on that salary if you have a studio apt/ 1 bed or roommate situation.

I trained there (with Westwind) for a pretty long time. You get used to it pretty quickly, north practice area for vfr and valley rallies for instrument. It is busy but the airspace is fairly simple vs south Florida for example. It is hot, but dry heat. Everyone has ink drying at some time, I switched to Florida for CFI and it was good experience.

They're big enough to have a lead on apartments/accommodation. Phoenix/cave creek is nice, livable. Plenty to keep occupied.

Guy I know just left there for the airlines. Flew 1000 hours in 10 months. Had job offers at Skywest and Horizon

Could they pay for say the CFII and MEI. Or am I reaching too much?

Apartment wise as long as it has a garage and I'm not shot at and the car isn't broken into then I'll be fine. I can totally do a studio if needed.

Yeah, be careful around the PHX class B. They don't play games there. I had several pilots sent to me by the ABQ FSDOS who needed to prepare for 709 rides due to PHX class B busts.

It's the outer sections, so for DVT, no zoom climb out on your cross countries until that 6500 ft shelf is behind you

I recently heard from a friend that they are no longer helping with instructors getting ratings. However, that can change, when they're desperate enough they'll make it happen. You'll pay a lot for an apartment in north Phoenix with a garage, it's the desert, you don't need a garage. Transpac is an OK place overall. It's not rainbows and gumdrops, but it's OK. You'll fly 4-6 hours a day average and then be able to move on when you have enough time. The Chinese students have their challenges, you just have to crack that egg and then you can mold them how you want. Warning, you'll never take their culture away from them, when they go home, they readjust to their own culture. Transpac is a very challenging experience for both the students and instructors, but for that brief lifetime experience, you get to mold the student just the way you want. Try it, put the fundamentals of instruction to work, I DARE ya. ;) In the end you'll make some good friends.

Good luck and fly safe.

Their job application said a month ago that only CFI was required and an iPad. Not only that but it said no problem if you didn't have your CFII, they'd pay for the training to get it done. Glad I'm getting both this summer. I've been tracking them for awhile as that's the top place I'd like to be...but hoping maybe for AF also.

Now their online application says CFI/CFII REQUIRED and MEI preferred. Keep changing the bonus...now it's $3000?

@jskibo any ideas on why they changed it to CFII required now? Wonder if I should contact Amy to just get my name in the hat early or not.

Their website clearly hasn't been updated with the application though...if anyone is worried.

Yes. We want to utilize you in all phases of our training programs. Having your CFII is very important, infact we are happy to help you get your CFII if you do not already have the add-on. If you would like to get your MEI, employees are eligible for discounts on training based on time with the company. You can schedule your training flights on your days off or after your scheduled flights are complete.

Don't know. I only contacted them once to ask some questions.

Seems like their requirements float around like an airline pricing model. Whatever it takes to fill a class, then back to the norm.
