Traffic Ticket Question Re: Pilot Application

Thanks.

They're gauging honesty rather than driving ability.

The drivers record copy I got from my state only goes back 3 years and turned up nothing even though I know I got a seat belt violation 2 years ago. Then I went to the clerk of courts office and got a copy of my entire criminal record since I was 18. It was surprisingly long.

Thanks.

Not entirely correct. More than a couple minor offenses is a red flag to recruiters. They can infer from many things but the big one is you can't follow the rules. If you can't drive a car withing limits how the heck are you going to fly a plan withing company limits.

Well, let's talk macro and micro.

On a macro sense, if you've got five tickets in three years, that's a huge red flag about decision making ability and responsibility.

On a micro sense, if you've got a ticket that you went to traffic school for that you presumed wasn't on your record and you answered "no" to a question that asked "Have you had any moving violations in the last five years" and you answer no, knowing darned well you did but assumed that you wouldn't be caught because of traffic school, it's a flag for #1 Honesty and #2 attention to detail.

Not to forget the basic concept that a responsible adult takes ownership of their actions and accepts the consequences of those actions.

What of you can't remember and kept no records of dates?

I got a speeding ticket in HS, one or two in college. Rolled through a stop sign while flying freight... Who knows when those things happened?

how long do they keep those records?
National Driver Register - more info than you needed. NDR has records about suspensions and revocations by the various states.

I can't tell you specifically what information is on a California driving record from DMV (because I have no incidents, accidents, tickets, etc.), but I do know that DUI convictions WILL show up on certified DL records for the past 10 years. So I would assume that the span of the records are 10 years, minimum.

Michigan has two records. Edit and full. Police, law enforcement, security clearance checks get sent the full records. i have been told other employers are sent the edit records which I think is 7 years.
