TLC Special "Brace for Impact"

I was one of the haters in the beginning but after reading his book and just listening to him speak a little I'm throughly impressed. He seems like a standup kinda guy. It's nice to see credit given when deserved.

Where's the credit for the FO? Sully should be pulling for him a little bit more. The poor FO was trying to run 3+ page checklist that is designed to be run from altitude. He was also the flying pilot at the start.

Dear Satan, please consider the following for my scorecard:

I have become Sullied out without even giving his book the time of day. I simply don't care, and would like it all to go away. The hype does not put me in a state of emotional bother or physical discomfort, but I feel it's all a bit overdone. Cognizance of a TV special on the topic causes my eyes to roll an unprecedented amount. The man most certainly deserves respect for the outcome of the event, and I find no fault with his pecuniary advances from it, as I'd likely do the same myself. But... I just... don't... care.

Satan's reply:

Paul, you live in the United States. I know you're already used to the commercialization of 'acts heroic' and the hype of uncommon happenings to the everyday Joe. It is a sign that you live in a place that, for the most part, has things well put together, and therefore media and mainstream hypes must attach to things massively irrelevant. You should be thankful that your stint away from me is in such relatively sumptuous graces. I award you no points for your neutral stance, and I'll see you soon.

I think Sully would be the first to agree with you that FO Skiles, the rest of the crew, and all the various people people involved have not gotten the attention or credit they deserve. Sully has been pulling for his crew every chance he's gotten. It's not his fault the media chooses not to cover that aspect. It seems to me that any frustrations we have about the coverage of USAirways 1549 should be directed at the media...as usual they're the ones controlling the story.

It can't be that terrific if it is on TLC, but I will watch it.

TLC is like the "B" list Discovery Channel nowadays. Shows that could "almost" make the ratings get on TLC. Shows that are starting to get played out (American Chopper) get moved to TLC. Anything that shows someone scooping the innards out of a chest cavity is played on TLC as well.

I was never a hater, but I agree about his book. This guy is the real deal, I hope to shake his hand someday.

My personal fave is "How not to dress" or whatever it's called.

I'd like to log a little time on Stacy London.

"What Not To Wear"... haha, and yes i'm ashamed to admit that i know what you're talking about. that show cracks me up. :p haven't seen it in a while though.

They did a great job as a team but they also had a great deal of luck on their side. It is very unusual for the Hudson to be that calm. If it was the usual chop there may have been a very different outcome. I'd like to think that any of the professional pilots on this board would have done the same in the same conditions.

In case anyone hasn't seen this yet (dont watch it here, click on it to go to the youtube page for HD)

Probably just me, but did anyone else notice Jeff's neck when he speaks? Very good special by the way.

I had the opportunity to watch both Sully and Jeff speak at Oshkosh this year. Everyone overlooks Jeff, and he made a point of it. (This is not a direct quote, as it happened months ago) "Everybody talks about Sully, but they forget if it weren't for me none of that would have happened...I had the controls when we hit the geese!"

The only interesting thing I've noticed during this show, was that Sully had 1000 from the Air Force Academy when he graduated! That is awesome.
