Both of us are hat-wearing this week.
funny you should say that...as an FO I would have my hat at the ready in the crew lounge, . and if the captain had one, I'd wear mine (Uni-form) If he (or she) didn't I wouldn't. I also had the dinner jacket and the leathers and would be able to match as well...that way we looked like a team. Most of my fo's didn't play along, but that was their choice.

I'm for mandating the hat and downsizing the number of approved options.

Being cheap is bad.

Being frugal is smart.

Cheap is tipping $3 on an $80 meal.
Frugal is ordering water instead of a $30 bottle of wine to go with your $80 meal.

Don't be cheap. It makes you look like an ass to most.

So does bring broke make one look like an ass? 2nd year regional FO pay, two kids AND an ex-wife to support. I usually have zero cash on me, and what small bills I usually have, go to the van driver.

I'm skinny not because I don't eat, but because I can't afford to eat well.

Sorry miss maid. Gotta worry about #1, #2 and #3 first. You are low on the priority list.

THEIR SALARY IS STILL BASED UPON THE FACT THAT MANAGEMENT KNOWS THAT TIPPING CUSTOMARY!!!!
Take a deep breath and relax. What you say is true, but the exception proves the rule. Do you still tip an apathetic, lazy and sub-par server? If I'm unhappy with the service I might tip 5% to make a point, if the service is exceptional I've tipped 30%. Also sometimes you get wait staff that simply won't leave you alone, if they bother me constantly asking if everything is okay while I'm eating my meal it reduces the tip amount. The really good staff won't bother you and will be ready for anything you might need because they're watching you and are anticipating your next request.

The worst tenants I've ever had were church officials (preachers, youth ministers, deacons, etc.). And then when I evicted them, they sent some unbelievable tirades about how God was going to take care of them but punish me horribly. Just cemented my view of religious people and organized religion.

You shouldn't group all people together based on the actions of a few.

Also, as someone else pointed out you can't make less than minimum wage. If their tips don't add up to minimum wage, it is supplemented. I'm not saying I don't tip, I'm just saying it's not automatic. If my drink glass stays empty, you lose a dollar. Not polite, there goes another dollar. Hopefully you can understand that.

I don't disagree with any of that. But that's not what we're talking about here. We're talking about people simply choosing not to tip.
