Well sometimes the cool kid was smarter than the dorks, and the dorks were just dorks because they liked watching sci-fi and not getting any girls (not for making good grades or anything). - - So I'm sure the cool guy has gotten the last laugh many times; just not as often as the dorks.

I really don't believe this guy is brainwashed. I think he is just trying to impress some naive ladies who think pilots make tons o' loot and live some romantic lifestyle. I imagine we've all been guilty of telling a "fish story", at one time or another, to try to impress the ladies. I remember bragging early in college about some high school sports exploits and my buddy, who overheard, was quick to point out how I led the conferene in fouls, technical fouls, and unforced turnovers, damn hater. I don't think being a pilot impresses ladies that much anyway, and that is why my "bar job" is dolphin trainer. Nobody uses that one. Gold, Jerry, gold!

Wish I could've gone to a HS where cool and smart could co-exist. If you had above a certain GPA in my HS, well, you were a dork. I think the coolness points started going negative about 2.9 on the GPA. Anything 3.0 or over was not cool. Not like I really care now. Most of those people are living in double wides with nine kids, fourteen cats, and three cars with no tires in their front yards.....
 
I'm gonna stick with my original statement and say that it applies to all schools.
Grades have nothing to do with people being cool or dorks. If I see a hot ass chick, or a girl sees a good looking dude, they are not going to label them "dork" because there gpa is over 3.0.

.....still this is wierd, I just got kind of heated.... a bit wierd.....maybe it was that PB&J I had

Personally, I agree. I was just relating my experience in my shallow, conceited, private high school. Most people would look at you, then rate you on dateability based on looks, your parent's tax bracket, your car (if you had one), and what their friends would think. The GPA fell into the latter category. Somehow, the cool people (the football players and the cheerleaders) tended to have lower GPAs, which in turn made lower GPAs cool. I didn't say it made sense, but damn am I glad I'm out of there. In retrospect, I think I shoulda home schooled myself.

That picture cracks me up. It was taken in late '99 when he was doing one of his first trips on the shuttle, as a new-hire 727 FE . He got his transfer to CVG after a couple months, and the girl who took the picture (I think it's the dark-haired girl on his left) left the pic in his mailbox.
