Thinking about dropping the $230/mo crashpad expense...

So, moral of the story, since I didn't read the whole dang thread is. . .

Don't rush off to that airline job if you can't meet your financial obligations. Okay?

Great, good luck.

Are you sure? I thought the moral was that you should get many girlfriends in many cities so that you can get some action and some free rent at the same time... at least that's the moral I took from it :D

So, for you guys suggesting that he move - have you looked into the cost of moving lately? If he's barely making ends meet there's no way he can afford to move. It's going to cost us $700ish for a Budget rental truck + $300ish in gas + a couple of nights in a hotel since those trucks can only go 55 is another $200 (this is Park City, UT to Ann Arbor, MI), and then on top of that you have to be able to front quite a lot of money for a new apartment (first and last month's rent, + security deposit).

moving is an incredibly expensive option

OR you could move little by little ala US Airways.... if you break it down into little pieces it should work... and then make a road trip out of it with a friend for the big pieces... it should take just over two full days.

I'd sell it off and only the neccessities when I move to wherever his destination may be. He could store whatever he can't/won't sell at his parents house. Ask your husband's best man about that. It's one of the many philosophies we had in common. If you can't fit it in your car, you don't need it.:)

I've moved 6 times since 2006 and I doubt I've spent more than a grand in moving expenses for all of them put together.

If you're single (or just moving on your own and leaving your family several states away), that philosophy works. It also only works if you're moving into places that are furnished. Kinda hard to fit that bed or couch in the Altima (or a blue pickup truck), but it's also sorta of a nice thing to have something to sleep on other than the floor. Been there, done that, and I had the back pains to prove it.

Oh I've never slept on a floor. The first big purchase I'd make is a bed or a futon and buy the rest of the furniture as I had to the funds to purchase more stuff. It would be tough for me to even consider putting a family through attempting to survive regional pay at the beginning. Its amazing that some of you guys were able to pull that off.

I made over 30grand my first year and there still was a little struggle involved. But thats only because Southern California is expensive!

Not all of us have mommy and daddy to help out when you want to be a pilot.... it's a job, jobs are meant to take care of financial obligations.

Not everyone who is a pilot took out a ridiculous loan that made their flight training cost much more than it should have knowing deep down inside they could have never met the financial obligations of the loan in the first place. Those folks that did it anyway because they could are probably regretting it now. If anything they should just be glad there isn't debtors prison in the United States.

What you don't know is that some of us while even furloughed, and working odd jobs even have to send money to their parents because their parents are hurting right now.

You're attempt at belittling me has failed on epic proportions. Tell us more about the heavy CRJ. I believe that is more your speed.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Another not helpful sarcastic post from old skool

The world's not perfect. . .people make mistakes.

The only thing we can ask of each other is to learn from our own mistakes.

Sarcastic, well, if that's what reality requires - so be it.

Not all of us have mommy and daddy to help out when you want to be a pilot.... it's a job, jobs are meant to take care of financial obligations.

Oh trust me, mommy and daddy didn't help me with one cent.

You see, some of us didn't stay on mommy's tit til we were 22 and graduating college.

Some of us left the nest at 18 or 19 to begin to make a life for ourselves rather than being a breastfed adult.

So, that being said, I've had over 6 years of taking care of my own financial obligations.

One mortgage
Apartment lease payments
Two car payments
Grocery costs
Utility bills
Any medical bills
Credit card bills
Managing MY own money properly (re: student loans - in a responsible manner)
Managing OUR money properly

Now, do you see me whining about having to dump my $966 a month mortgage because I was tired of driving 25 minutes to work?

But yes, let's have some sympathy for everyone who rushed off to an airline at the first chance without being realistic about their financial obligations that they currently have and the one's they'd end up taking on because of the nature of the business. Hey, it sucks. It's not fun being unemployed twice in two years, but if you're some what smart with your money it shouldn't be an issue. That said, seeing someone cry about a $230/mo crashpad expense is just a little laughable.

After all there is a certain price of admission, and there is a price for staying in the game. Pay up.

:clap: Thank you sir. One of the few times we've agreed!!;)
