He’s the type of guy that’s all up in your mug during an election year, but after he’s elected, he could give less of a sh— about representing his constituents and is usually very clear about that.
But my district hasn’t “red pilled” yet to realize that the old party branding doesn’t apply any more.

That’s a very diplomatic eff you for reaching out, and also a large part of why I’ve quit doing these letters to my local elected officials.

Its disheartening to get a form letter in response. However, most of what we send is AI or a form letter as well. I dont think that means it doesnt matter though, especially on issues that are not completely baked in already. For example, I could write my senator every day on gun control or something like that and it wouldnt make a difference, but things like this I think are worthy of a send.

This is why it is so important to support your union's political action arm. They actually can get in the front door to talk to these reps and are able to get a lot more than a form letter in response.

I flew with a PAC guy and he told me to contribute to the PAC, fill out the form letters, and perhaps write a personal letter as well.

Recently I was able to attend a town hall for one of my representatives, a die hard MAGA fanboi. Except every time someone from the crowd asked a question that was contrary or critical of the Republican party, DOGE, or MAGA he took the chance to get on a soapbox and tell us why we're wrong. He had prepared slideshows for any possible criticism he would receive. He didn't listen to one concerned citizen, instead used it as a campaign stop to push his agenda. Even when a woman asked about reproductive rights, he just said we're not going to agree and took the next question. Another person in the crowd identified themself as a veteran and asked how cuts at the VA could be considered a good thing for an organization that is already short staffed and notorious for long wait times? The response was a slideshow of alleged waste DOGE had found, claiming there was one employee at the VA earning over $3,000,000 a year for IT work. When pressed on proving for more information on this million dollar VA employee he passed the buck and said to trust DOGE.
Very disappointing for what was supposed to be an opportunity to listen to your constituents was really a chance to spew campaign rhetoric.

I got one response, just one. From “Chuck Grassley,” so at least his interns do something. A bit of hemming and hawing about how that was one of many proposals and nothing was finalized and then “one thing is not debatable, our spending is unsustainable.”
How about we just have 8 more aircraft carriers than the rest of the world combined or only have enough nukes to destroy the planet 15 or so times over? Also, if times are that tough then definitely we shouldn’t be funding discretionary travel by elected officials and should start by cutting their salaries and benefits.

He has been in the senate more than forty years, but crickets from the faction of MAGA that were crying for term limits in 2021-2025….
Also, it’s not like we can go back to see how Sen. Grassley has voted on every budget proposal since 1981…
He’s been in office so long that he created the OIG as the original DOGE and has now watched his own party destroy it. Also, he’s likely going to have his grandson appointed to his seat after having his re-election rubber stamped by the idiots who show up at the polls here.

That checks, especially since back in 2020 Joni Ernst campaigned on being from a farming family yet fumbled it when asked about bushel prices, her challenger knew the answer to the penny, but she kept her seat anyway.
