They’re coming after my pay and retirement

That car is exactly what I want when the wheels fall off the Tesla.

Oh, my backup is my wife's... Tesla.

I have some ''work from home' this week anyway so it's not even a big deal. I do need to maybe get a little sunlight, speaking of that.
My aversion has always been how much control (actually how much my perception of control) Tesla Corp has over the car via their downloads, etc. I envision Musk sitting with a master list deciding who is eligible for upgrades, maintenance or unlocking of doors if occupants are burning to death. I understand this is Alex Jones level belief yet...it persists. I don't have the same fears on a Porsche, Ford, non-Musk EV. And I can appreciate that the car will simply not work as opposed to a "real car" that you can get started and might break down on the wrong side of town (in my definition a MAGA suburb or something).

Oh goodness. Both of y’all fell for the Tesla trap? I’m sorry.

Thank you for taking action to ask Congress to protect federal employee benefits, including FERS and the supplemental annuity.
You have communicated with the following:
  • Spineless MAGA slave Senator Chuck Grassley who's outlived multiple popes and doesn't want the same healthcare he receives available to his constituents (email)
  • Able to conveniently ignore Trump's repeated sexual assaults despite basing her attempts to be relatable on sexual assault Senator Joni Ernst (email)
  • Representative Zach Nunn, who helped me identify our neighborhood's closeted MAGAs based on who only put his signs in their yard (email)
I expect to get nothing more than a form letter back at best and to continue screaming into the void.

Awesome. And FYI, the liberal counterparts don’t write back anything other than the generic, automated form thanking you for your concerns and how it’s definitely on their radar.

My fear is the same reason that Apple, or Sonos, or Amazon will brick older devices remotely. They don't want to pay support engineers for a second longer than it takes to get the product shipped. And then, they want to make more sales, so they intentionally drop support and do things to disable some product that you've already bought, so you have to buy another one. Or make you pay for some software update to keep the car from being disabled.

I'm well aware...Nunn's (Democratic) predecessor completely ignored me when I tried to get her office to help me deal with the medical "system." But here's how low my standards are...I'll take "completely ineffective" over "evil."

For what it's worth, even though I've received milquetoast emails from them in the past on similar issues (Sean Duffy's remarks following the DCA crash being the most recent example), they have always responded. As with anything the more visibility they get on the issue, the better.

  • Senator Astronaut Captain Mark Kelly (email)
I've written his office before. The staffers who send the boilerplate replies probably hate me because of the barrage of letters I wrote when age 67 was before the Senate and I tore their arguments as to why it wasn't a bad idea to shreds but hey, they might still listen.
  • Senator Ruben Gallego (email)
  • Representative Andy Biggs (email)
Not gonna expect much from this clown, considering that he wants to eliminate OSHA. I think his office has flagged my email address to the "commie liberal socialist scum" spam folder though.

I will call my reps tomorrow (their aids are getting sick of me I’m sure). But for now:

I am truly sorry you folks are dealing with this. It’s not acceptable.

I mean, Alfred Sloan really pushed planned obsolescence into the auto arena in the 20's and 30's so it is kind of old hat. And Tim Apple and Beelzebubezos certainly studied Sloan in B-school. What is irritating bordering on sick is when medical device companies do it.

Auto companies probably would do it now, but there are some laws that make them supply parts for 10 years or so. Plus, they mostly don't make any of the parts themselves anyway. Software dependency and "less burdensome regulation" will change that, I'm sure.
