I don't know how much it would cost, and neither does anybody else here. But think about it for a second. Food: shop for and contract with a vendor. Vendor produces and delivers product. Cabin crew uses specialized equipment (adding cost and weight to aircraft, which doesn't sound like much until you multiply it by the size of the fleet) to heat and serve food. I'd venture to guess that more beverages get served when food is provided. More waste needs to be off loaded before new food can be brought on board. Turn times increase.
The above scenario is just a guess on how it might work, but you can see that the "costs" are perhaps greater than a quick glance leads us to believe. My point is, when folks speculate about things like this they tend to over-simplify the scenario.
I believe that if airline travelers (generalized as a whole) were willing to "pay an extra $x or $y for a meal," they'd be doing it. I believe that if anybody with experience and insight on operating an airline believed that travelers would "spend the extra couple of bucks for a better experience", this business model would have already been deployed.
The direction we (as pilots) want to see the industry go probably varies from that of travelers, investors, and managers. And who has more power to change it?
I believe these things do make a difference, and do change peoples preference as to which airline they choose.
The worlds most successful airlines are like this.
You're free to believe anything you want.
Perhaps on international routes. (Since the example you keep citing is Singapore Airlines, I assume you're referring to international service.) The margins for producing an accounting profit are much tighter with domestic flying, which is what I thought this thread is about.
I've heard that international flying on US carriers is a different (better?) experience than domestic flying. Anybody can correct me if I'm wrong.
Wow Toonces, so someone shouldn't be able to earn a livelihood because of their age or how they look? Maybe the flight attendants should have weekly weigh ins. I mean after all experience doesn't really commiserate with how well you preform your job. Could you imagine being on a plane during an emergency where every FA had 6 months of experience and the muscle mass of a supermodel. Of course you'd have something good to look at while you slowly died. Or how about those male flight attendants. I really hate having able bodied crew members when the latest extremest group decides to take over my aircraft.
Dude, I think you should really go back and read your posts. It's because of opinions like the ones that you posted that workplace discrimination laws exist. Everyone is and should be entitled to a job that they can perform well.

but it would'nt kill anyone to hire and mix in a couple of lookers to boost morale, either.

Boost morale?

Emergencies Hah. How often do those happen anyway? In the event one does happen, how many of the present crop of FA’s would be able to keep it together anyhow. As a customer I would rather have some eye candy to look at on a six hour flight than a 60 yr old granny to point to a door in the unlikely event we have a crash I will live through
Yep. Us heterosexual guys like hot FA's believe it or not
It's an airplane, not a strip club. And I've seen some pretty unattractive women working the poles at strip clubs, so clearly, even there, looks aren't everything.

How about the other half of the population? Does it occur to you that heterosexual guys are not the only people buying airline tickets?
And that has yet to answer what sort of morale and who's is being boosted by having only beautiful people as flight attendants.

1.Airplanes must be clean.
2.Baggage must get from point A to B in one piece and on time.
3.There should be adequate staff at ticket counters and gates to provide quality customer service.
4. Food should be served on all flights, time permitting.
5. Flight crews must look and be professional.
6. Cabin crews must provide excellent customer service. They are the face of the company.
If it was your company, what face would you want it to look like?
This is my vision for returning the class and glory days to airline travel. Since pilots are a dime a dozen, why not have handsome pilots versus dumpy looking ones? Why not pay young attractive and qualified FA's the money they need and deserve to attract and keep them?
You don't have to like my ideas, but I stand behind them 100%.
If you had your choice of flying an airline I was running or any other U.S airline today, which would you choose.
I think the term "attractive" and beautiful are two different things. I don't think anyone here has mentioned that only beautiful model's should be F/As.
As to the morale, what is meant by that is the general feeling you get when being on the plane. I think even females would prefer pretty or attractive F/As.

I'd much rather have an average looking FA who does her job than eye candy that can't.
But that's because I prefer competence over good looks.
I guess I'm just crazy.
Young attractive qualified F/A's (but not only) would IMO boost sales, and give flying a different image, rejuvenate it a bit. Since you are a lady, and there are ladies on this forum, how about we say, a young attractive Cabin Crew.
Just because they are attractive, does not mean they cannot be qualified, or don't know how to do their job. Everyone goes through the same training.
