The urinating match.... does it continue?

I was flying through ORD today and I bumped into a GoJet pilot. Nice guy and all but I did feel a touch squeamish standing there and talking to him as I could detect glares from other pilots in the terminal.

My question is: Does tension still exist between TSA and GJ? If so has it been at all relaxed from its intial hyper p1ssed off mode? Is anyone cutting any of these guys a break?

Please don't turn this into a verbal brawl... I just wanted to stay attuned to the regional political world.

Yes, the tension continues. . .rightfully so.

And I certainly wouldn't call it a urinating match. . .this is people's livelihood folks.

If you were really attuned, you wouldn't even speak to protoscabs like GoJet, jetBlue, Virgin or Skybus pilots.

I realize that alot of JetBlue, Virgin and Skybus pilots probably know better, but do you really think that all the GoJet pilots know what's going on? Many of them have to be new to the industry and though many of us would say it would be easy to say "no thanks", I'd bet many of them are just like normal human beings and have a hard time deciding to change their surroundings. If you've never been a member of a union, how are you gonna know how things work around here? Should isolated tribe people know what a scab is? I mean, common now. Isn't there a list for stuff like this?

or you could say:

It's easy to tell a GoJet pilot in the terminal because almost all turn their badges around.

Future new hires need to get an education about the company before they decide to work there.

Well, this is how I would have looked at it 8 years ago~

They're a relatively new company and hiring. They have pretty big jets for hiring so many newbies. The pay's not so great, but it's hard to find a good paying job when you don't have the experience. If I get the job, having never been in the airline industry before, I don't realize that airplane seats or weight normally should decide pay. I had to get into the industry to really get a grasp on how things work. I wouldn't know what the whole cold shoulder thing was about.

Now, if I was talking to someone who works at an airline like that and they started talking smack to my face, they've obviously decided where they stand- so then it's GAME ON!!

Seriously.... take a chill pill.... just because you disagree with the choices others have made in their lives that does not give you the right to dictate whom I talk to... you don't know the purpose of nor the outcome of my conversation. Furthermore... as a non regional pilot I am trying my best to stay on top of the politics involved but I cannot dedicate that much time to read the rants of others.

Velocipede is right. Unless the conversation was about educating the guy on why he shouldn't work at GoJet and why he should go to a reputable carrier, then there's no legitimate reason to talk to one of these guys. If they know that they're part of an alter-ego airline and don't care, then they're not any better than a SCAB.

I wouldn't exactly lump jetBlue, Virgin or Skybus into the "scab" catagory. Might as well toss Colgan and Skywest in there, at least for the time being, since they're non-union, if you're going to call those guys protoscabs. To my knowledge, none of those carriers were started to get around an existing union contract. GoJets, on the other hand......

Education was mentioned. It goes both ways. If you come off as stand-offish, you're not gonna get a very good reception, ie Red Sox vs. Yankees fans.

My Dad used to get crap from Legacy guys for flying 737's at SWA for lower wages than they did. Then he told them about the millions he's made in stock options and profit sharing. Then that 20 dollar an hour pay difference didn't really look the same. Granted GoJets guys aren't in the same category. However, you never know what will happen with SkyBus and Virgin.

Just food for thought.

It's great to see you want to educate yourself about the current state of affairs at the regional airline level. However, just because you don't like the response....don't automatically negate the validity of said response. Especially when you've already admitted you don't know what's going on.

GoJets pilots SHOULD know better than to take a job that was created to circumvent a union negotiated contract. I'm sorry folks, just like 'ol Mike Vick.....IGNORANCE IS NO EXCUSE....Guilty as charged. If you've applied to work for a company and accepted a position, you must have done some research on the company history, etc.....and if you didn't do any research....SHAME ON YOU and you'll get what you deserve.

GoJets = BAD :sitaware:

True, but i dont think SWA opened their doors with shady beginnings did they?

I agree that ignorance is not a valid excuse for one's actions. My response was directed at Vel's response that if I was not attuned/up to date on the current state of things that I should not have spoken to this guy in the first place. I think that it is important to be educated from both sides of the coin so that one is able to discern the how and why for another persons actions and/or level of ignorance.

I don't say this in an attempt to aggravate another person on this forum... I spoke to this guy simply to find out why and how he came about flying for GJ.... plain and simple. Now as a hopeful airline pilot if I can't talk to people from any random airline (without being judged) purely based on the position of opposing pilots what can I learn from this situation? That it is okay to talk to non alter ego pilots but not vice versa?

I understand that there is a lot of animosity towards GJ pilots and I don't agree with their actions. But at the same time I think if I have to rely on learning about the industry strictly from this forum that there is something wrong. It is one thing to self educate and another to take someone else's word.... I think not self educating is a lesser form of ignorance.

Okay, so you're trying to stay on top of the politics. . .but you're telling someone to chill out about it?

Which do you want? Do you want the information, or Kool-Aid?
