The University of Oklahoma and Pinnacle announce direct hire

Re: The University of Oklahoma and Pinnacle announce direct

Who needs PIC time to fly a jet? The FMS makes all PIC decisions for you? Right?

That's actually funny you say that. I had a flight on a regional airline the other day (Mesa), and one of the pilots was giving the cruise brief or whatever you call it. One thing that really sounded goofy was when he said "The flight computer is showing a 2:35 flight today, blah blah". I just thought it sounded stupid. Leave out the flight computer comment, it makes you sound like a dumbass that just does what the "flight computer" says.

Just to be fair, I heard this on a Delta Airbus to DTW last week, too. They'd probably say the same thing on a DC-9 if they could. :)

I mention the computer as well. But its a joke because I fly a /A Saab that has no computer.

On my Southwest flight the other day the pilot said "the computer says we've got 630 miles to go to Phoenix"

It's just a computer. We use them every day. I guess he could have said "according to my nav log etc..." Maybe he would have sounded smarter...but I bet he doesn't give a flip. Neither should we.

IFR doesn't stand for "I Follow Roads?" ;)

Hmm, perhaps I will start saying "Uni(versal) the navigator estimates 1 hour and 15 minutes enroute today" in my briefs.
