Well, after many months of debate I have decided to stop flying for the airlines.

The reasons are many and mostly personal and financial. Only a few of the reasons had to do with flying for an airline, but they are big reasons.
1. Commuting. This eats up any time off you have, especially when you have to commute to & from Florida.
2. Pay. It will take 5 or 6 years to get back to the amount of money I was making before aviation. Hell, it will take 2 more years to make what I was making as a CFI. (I knew this getting into it, but thought I could hold out longer.)
The other reasons had to do with my wife and I trying to start a family. We were having trouble the "old fashioned" way, so medical science had to intervene. This is very expensive and insurance is a big joke in this area. Other reasons are I have been married for a year and a half, and I have yet to live with my wife. Our house in Fort Lauderdale has been on the market for 8 months and it's not selling.

I actually feel liberated! I miss the freedom of general aviation. Airline flying is so regimental, and for me it was somewhat stressful.

So I am going back to work in the air conditioning field, back to the company I left when I went to flight school, and back to making great money. I already have some flying lined up. The business agent at my local union needs his BFR, and I am looking into a flying club in Miami. (can't seem to find one in Fort Lauderdale) They may also need the services of a CFI.

I'm still open to the possibility of flying for a living, just not for an airline. Maybe some Bahamas :pirate: flying where I can be home every night. Maybe I'll be one of the first Gringos to join "Brothers to the Rescue" http://www.hermanos.org/ and help search for Cuban rafters. :nana2:
Hey Doug, need a CFI for that new flight school of yours?

Well congrats on the decision I know it must be hard to leave after all the time and effort.

Ill be starting my masters this summer and in 18 months we'll see where I'm at.

Surely you could find a part time instructor gig to help keep your head in the clouds. Goodluck and dont be a stranger.

While we may disagree politically and socially, I see and agree with the strict regimented lifestyle of an airline not being all worth it. Even though I am still a student pilot, flying at erby diddle left a bad taste in my mouth, and with them mimicking an airline set up, I realized airline stuff wasn't me.

Good luck (if you need it) on whatever you're taking on now, and maybe i'll see you at NJC some day!

Can't say I blame you. I have been looking at regular jobs lately and there seems to be some good stuff out there at the moment that pays fairly well.

When I graduated from college in 2002 the economy was in the toilet and there were barely any good jobs out there. Seems things have changed since last time I looked. Some of these kids graduating now are getting crazy signing bonuses and all kinds of perks that dried up back after 9/11.

More power to you!

You got bigger ballz than I do homes, hats off to you (even though I don't wear one). I can't bring myself to quite, I don't know what I would be capable of doing not being hypoxic, tired and frustrated, I might build a better mouse trap! :yar:

Good luck in all you do and don't be a stranger!!! It sounds like you'll still be able to enjoy flying, so it might turn out better for you and the family in the long run.

good luck Turk! sounds like you know what you want and have the nutts to go and grab it, gotta respect that.

Good luck homes, mad respect for making the decision...as I type this in the good ol' Lincoln, Nebraska Holiday Inn. :)

No one can blame you, it is hard to survive the begining especially when you are married, I wish you all the luck and hope to still see you around.
