The truth about being a pilot

Only about a year and half at my airline and one year of instructing, but I can say it beats sitting in a cubicle M-F 9-5.

Most days, I find that to be true! Also probably depends on the cubicle, and whether it's M-F 9-5 or more like M-Sa 7-7. :-)

Hey, don't knock it - I'm still on my first marriage and I drop my kids off at school every day, tuck them in every night.

That is also huge.

Flying can be both the best and worst job in the world, it's mostly what you make of it I've found.

Wait until you can't go do it - then you'll be longing for the days of "god this sucks! another overnight?!"

It's all about life experiences/perspective.

Sometimes when I'm complaining to friends and family, I look back on previous life experiences and have to remind myself "I'm not really filling sandbags anymore, am I"

If you've never experienced "the suck", then maybe you don't get it. But most of us have and it just takes a quick jog down memory lane to realize how nice life actually is - especially as a pilot.

Paperwork sucks I guess.
I've found some time away does wonders for the marriage, assuming you don't come home with something you didn't leave with. When I'm gone I eat breakfast with the kids and read books to them at night via FaceTime. (Sometimes) They'll probably be fine. (Or they'll be robbing your house, who knows)
Many of the folks I've heard moaning about the job didn't get driven into it by love, stick with it from hunger and enjoy honing it with a passion. Maybe they just thought it'd be a neat thing to do or couldn't figure out what to do with their basking weaving degree. IDK, kinda like those crappy teachers out there...If you don't love it, you'll probably end up hating it.
Not saying at all that any of those possibilities are the OP's problems. Just my observation.
