The price is right......

Yeah William, I found the course price out from another thread. The price used to be the main fixture of Aviator promotional stuff; no more!

High training costs and rock bottom pay and not even any job right now. This is not an industry to get into I'm afraid Billy.

1. Your not familiar enough with me to call me "Billy" and you dang sure ain't old enough:(

2. I've been around this industry long enough to know that "this to shall pass".... well maybe the jobs part of it anyway:D

Well young man, I partly agree with you. The jobs will come back and there will be hiring again. However, every time there is a downturn in the industry, the pay and conditions go downhill. When the upturn occurs they never go back up again.

If you were by little boy Bill, I would not want you to spend 50k to enter an industry that gives you so little return. I mean, where do you see yourself in 1,2 and 5 years time; I try not to think about it too much.

Well...... its like this, I don't have to think about it at all! You see, at 52 years old my ambitions in aviation are a bit different than most. I've been around aviation all of my life, I chose a different career path and preferred over the years to fly for fun, not profit. Now that I've retired from my chosen path, I thought it would be nice to pass on a bit of my flying (and other) experience to others and if I happen to make a bit of money doing that, all the better.

I chose Aviator over an FBO back home for several reasons, the biggest, distractions at home. It would take me forever to accomplish the same things a home that I've been able to do in the months that I've been here.

I don't plan on working for Mike, he's aware of that, but my reason for not doing that are not his payscale or the school, because if I were younger I would work here in a minute. I simply like where I live (On an Airpark in Texas) and don't want to move. (The luxury of a Pension:bandit:)

I don't want to work for the airlines, I've lived that lifestyle since 9-11 and don't want it anymore. If I get an offer of a job, flying a King Air or a Shiny little corporate Jet:eek: I wouldn't turn it down, but I probably won't be out pounding the pavement to do it (another luxury of a Pension:bandit:).

Now..... who's the young man?:D

I am sure there are a lot of good deals out there, but I can tell you about the place I did my training. It is a little more expensive now, but not too bad.

Aviation Services Company

"Complete in 6 weeks or less. Includes certification for Commercial, with single & Multi Engine Land Class ratings, Instrument rating. 100 hours Multi Engine, 75 hours Single, 20 hours Simulator, 100 hours Ground, 4 Flight Tests, 2 knowledge tests and all course materials and charts."

All of that is 32,000 and you get 100 hours multi. Now this is not a fancy school, but you will come in close to budget since he quotes 100 hours of ground (which is usually a place where you use more time). He is also the DPE, so you know exactly what he wants for checkrides. He is really tough, but you will learn a lot.

If you want some more info, I posted some things about it on the changing careers forum. Otherwise, send me a PM.
