Immediately after crossing the IAF?Q: When crossing an IAF where there is a procedure turn indicated (and you're doing the procedure turn), at what point may you descent to procedure turn altitude?

Immediately after crossing the IAF?
Crossing the IAF
What is a cruise clearance? If you are on this clearance, can you descend without contacting to ATC? If you do report to ATC leaving an altitude, can you return to your previous altitude without contacting ATC?
Oh, that's a straight out of the AIM, easy to find question!![]()

Ah, I've got a good one (I think).
Only circling minimums are published for a specified instrument approach procedure. Why?
There are two criteria, one of which is kind of obvious, the other, perhaps not so much.
1) When the runway is not aligned with the approach path by more than 15 degrees.
I have no idea on the second criteria, the only thing I can think of deals with ATC or pilot discretion for circling to a more favored runway because of winds.
If there is no hold depicted and ATC instructs you to hold without any radial, direction, or leg information...how do you hold?
1. Final approach course is more than 30 degrees offset from the runway.
2. Descent gradient between FAF and runway threshold exceeds 400 feet per nautical mile.
Totally guessing. Hold on the side of the fix/navaid you arrived from, on the same bearing or radial. Right turns. 1 minute legs.
Option 2: Yell at ATC for not giving you information they're required to provide.
Negative. Minimum fuel, direct airport please. If there is no hold depicted and ATC instructs you to hold without any radial, direction, or leg information...how do you hold?
I got it, and actually laughed....Yeah, it was kind of a joke about states. Carry on.
