The Death of General Aviation

That's great, because a lot of the local airports here have open hangers for the first time ever. Maybe we should get rid of required annual inspections to lower costs :)
Oh dear God in Heaven no...not with some of the airplanes I've seen come into annual.

The A&P at ashland just introduced fixed price annuals. 500 for a single. 550 for a single with HP. 600 for a single with HP and Complex. etc etc... These prices are labor only not including extra parts needed. But alot of people like it because they say at least they have a base to go off of.

Right! they spent the money for Harrison Ford and Morgan Freeman to make the commercials, Just pay a little more to air them on TV. Sporty's, AOPA, NAFI/SAFE, EAA and so on should band together and flood TV and (non aviation) print media with reasons GA is good and invite people to get out and learn to fly.

Does anyone else remember when Beechcraft used to advertise in National Geographic magazine? That was a LONG time ago, like the early 70s!

It turns out that a day with a high of 75 and clear skies brings the pilots out of the woodwork. The OVC006 33/32 must have really been keeping people away.

Dropped by the FBO for a bit today to pick up some stuff from my toolbox (home improvement project) and the place was bustling. We had lessons, rental checkouts, owner flights, and even a transient jet.

I see it on the positive side as well. I was down at the aerodrome working on my privately owned Cherokee (not a rich guy, BTW) and it was busier than I have seen it in a long time. Hanger availability? Nope. Local pilot/owners flying? Yep. As a matter of fact, I saw 3 planes IN LINE at the pump and I have NEVER seen that. There were also more transients tied down than I have seen in a while. My IA has a 2 month waiting list for annuals...so not sure what's going on down here in S TX, but GA seems to be doing quite well.

Flight training sucks because no one is hiring 250 hour wonders anymore and these kids want what they want NOW!!! Can't get hired in 90 days? Forget that, they won't wait.
