The "cancelled" Delta 737-900's and Embraer 190's

Well the thinking is if you can buy a 190 why not just buy an a319 with 20 more seats and all the range and cost benefits of it ,that's parkers line anyway. Why have a fleet of 20 or so planes with all the MX and Bs that goes along with that when you can just add a subfleet of the same type that use all the same spare parts and pilots. The fuel burn of the 319 and e190 are pretty much the same at altitude anyway.

only one airline bought the c-series, Swiss International and that was to replace their 4 holers.

I'll go out on a limb here and say that I doubt 20 190s is the endgame. Beyond the obvious strategy of not purchasing "new" aircraft for market rates, I think the Southernjets strategy seems to be about future fleet flexibility. I still say the 88/90s are probably not going to be around as long as many think and there won't be one fleet type replacing them but several different ones. Does that mean I think they have a date in mind for retirement? No, I think that decision remains pretty fluid and dependent on a boatload of variables.

The purchase price is not negligible, at all. The low purchase price (re: lease rate, in this case) is exactly what offsets the high upkeep (fuel burn/maintenance) that you note above. If the purchase price were negligible, DL would have ordered CS100's, with low MX costs and low fuel costs.
Really? I didn't think the CS100 was even in production yet, news to me.

Yep - the CS100 was just certified in Canada and theoretically should have its EIS in 2Q 2016 with Swiss. The CS300 should have its EIS by the end of 2016, so both would be available by the time DL starts flying the E190 in 2017.

I know at least with Skywest, the customer service we have been getting from Embraer is leaps and bounds above what we are getting from Bombardier.

EMB is fantastic at supporting their aircraft, as long as the operator is willing to pay for what needs to be done to keep the aircraft flying.

Exactly.

It's like hearing about how JetBlue HATES their EMB-190's, and how they just want to get rid of them at any cost.

Enough guys repeat it, and folks start to believe it.

Do those guys take note that there are something like 250 of THE EXACT SAME AIRCRAFT being operated at regionals, with a whole bunch more on order? Of course not, because someone heard from a friend who talked with the janitor that emptied the trash of the fleet manager at JetBlue that an APU was on deferral one day, and that must mean that the entire fleet is worthless.

I've got news for all ya'll, if JetBlue hated their EMB-190's, they would have sold them with the quickness. Why? Because JetBlue is run by smart people who like to make lots and lots of money. Smart people who like making money don't hold on to a failing airframe for giggles.

It isn't hated. Early on it was hated due to Mx costs, but now the Mx record is actually on par with the A320.

There is probably a whole room of accountants that crunch numbers in which jets to buy and overall lifecycle costs vs revenue.

Not only that, but where to get the loan/lease from is also an art form, often time pushed off until the very last minutes (literally) of a deal. A fraction of a percentage point makes a pretty big difference on a hundred million dollar airplane.

Based on maintaining a fleet of GA planes I can't imagine what it costs to keep airliners flying. It's mind boggling that anyone can make money doing it.

It was Delta on guard.

I KNOW this.

And was the Skywest crew that took the last bacon at the hotel breakfast buffet. They left a pamphlet!

Excuse me, but have you heard about our lord and savior, Jerry? (yes I know I'm late to the party, sorry)

I should record and broadcast some Jerry Falwell when "Yo Gabba Gabba/TEEN FORUM" starts on guard. You have given me ideas!

It's like they're making a tour around to the different airlines.

It's been a busy fall for the BBD folks - lots of airline offices/hubs listed below on the certification testing flights!

Mirabel, QC;
Toronto, ON;
Montréal, QC;
Windsor, ON;
Thunder Bay, ON;
Moncton, NB;
Halifax, NS;
St-John’s, NL;
Calgary, AB; and
Regina, SK.

In the U.S., the aircraft has visited
Denver, CO;
Wichita, KS;
Boise, ID;
Chicago, IL;
Minneapolis, MN;
Fort Lauderdale, FL;
Dallas-Fort Worth, TX;

New Orleans, LA;
Nashville, TN;
Seattle, WA and
Raleigh/Durham, NC.

In a business where magazines are ditched in the cabin for weight savings, every penny is pinched.

Pro tip: if you want to make buku money in aviation, become an accountant.
