The best regional airline to work for

Thanks Cruise and Kellwolf. There is just really no way of knowing which ones will be around. Thanks, FLY SAFE T.C.

With the wrong team.....well, they might become the next Independence Air or Chicago Express.

Chicago Express had an awesome management team. From what I've heard, Independence Air had a decent management team too, except they failed in their attempt to go head-to-head with a major airline in a large hub utilizing an airplane with a high CASM. The failure of Chicago Express was directly attributable to ATA Airlines. ATA put a lot of debt upon Chicago Express, therefore any purchaser would be getting an airline already in the red. Chicago Express and ATA Airlines were both wholly-owned subsidiaries of ATA Holdings, Inc. It was some magic bookkeeping that kept ATA Airlines alive to be the Hawaii code-share feed for Southwest, while Chicago Express disappeared into history.

I still keep in touch with a few management people from Chicago Express. We didn't always agree, but it was awesome being on a first-name basis with some smart people in the General Office. For being such a small operation, they did their best to take care of us.

I didn't really explain in my first post, but my point is that even well-run airlines with a solid management team can be subject to the ails of the industry. This is especially true at the regional level, since our future is in the hands of a mainline partner (or partners) that may or may not have decent management. Heck, even Southwest, an airline with one of the best management teams in the industry, is feeling the pinch. You just need to find an airline that has a corporate culture that fits who you are, and go for it. Upgrade time, stability, pay, and work rules are all variables that change with time and the strength of your negotiating team/MEC.
