Telex 850 Question

Anyone have or used the Telex 850 headset in the CRJ? I'm coming from instructing and have used my Bose A20's entire time.

Like? Hate? Works good?

I've tried it. They're very light weight, but the headband hurts me after just 10-15 minutes. Also, coming from a Boss, the ANR is a joke.

To give you an idea, if the guy ahead of me used a Telex 850, they have the volume turned up about 50% higher than I need it with a Bose X.

This was a couple years ago, but the 850 did very well in the CRJ. They comfortable, quiet, and once we hit 180 it was speaker time.

If you're used to the noise reduction of the bose, you'll probably be disappointed. Personally I don't like them. Didn't think they were all that comfortable nor quiet. I much prefer an over the ear set.

Went from a Bose A20 to a Telex 850. I had the Telex for 3 trips and then sold it. Personal preference here, but the speaker quality of the headset was terrible, the volumes had to be turned upwards of 80-percent on the audio panel to hear ATC, the metal band hurt my head and the foam pads hurt my ears after about an hour of use, and there is no aux input or bluetooth. I couldn't recommend them less (I flew an e175 at the time). I went to a DC Pro X and it's the best headset I've tried for a jet. Highly recommend that one.

Part of it depends on airline cultures. I worked for Alaska and literally everyone wore headsets the whole flight. So at that point I personally don't like the 850 because it's not very comfortable for a long flight. Now I'm at United and I think you would be considered weird if you kept the headset on in cruise on a longer flight. I've never seen anyone do it. Don't know about the 737 but you don't need a headset in the 757/767. In that case the 850 is perfect. Every airline and airplane is different.

At my shop 99% of the time the headsets stay on. If someone wants to take it off, more power to them, but I have a hard time hearing the radio without the headset in the E190.
Sorry if it wasnt clear but i was in agreement. The only way i can figure out what the foreign controllers are saying is with a headset on and anr. So mine is on at the minimum until cpdlc.
