Teb today

Well Ambassador KLB, then I’m sad for the both of us.

The reason I was able to hold Ambassador is out of my own stubbornness honestly. We can fly out on a 7 day trip where I could undoubtedly airline home and show back up the day prior. But I absolutely refuse to waste two days commuting back and forward on the airlines and deal with TSA, airport terminals, and uncivilized airline passengers. I'd rather just kick back and enjoy wherever I'm at or just drive to somewhere enjoyable. I am in a position to do whatever I want. Go home...stay. My clients don't really care.

I'm part 91. So I'm usually only flying 250hrs a year. It is definitely a real struggle to try and maintain status. But honestly there is no real reason to be thirsty for it. I don't really eat the free breakfast or frequent the lounges anymore. All my meals are expensed and I'm not tied to trying to stay under certain per diem amount.
It’s mainly about the multipliers to get more points for rooms. Staying at nice hotels for free when you go on vacation is a nice perk.

They base these points and levels on “stays” and not necessarily on number of overnights. I went to initial with a guy that checked out every morning and went across the parking lot to a different Marriott property. Back and forth between the two every other day…….22 ”stays” by the time he left! Moved up quickly…..
Too much effort for me!

I always thought “one stay” = “one night”. You’re saying there’s a difference? I’m looking at my Marriott account right now, and don’t see a difference.

That’s always the way it’s been for me too. Same credit for 22 nights at one property as for 1 night at 22 different properties.

Maybe he had some kind of special promo? I did see that Hilton has some kind of a difference between a stay/night, so maybe that was it.

This!
Marriott ran a similar last May. It was like 1 point per stay and a bonus point for for a stay plus a different property. He had a good plan but I had enough to do studying rather than move my stuff!

We went from one pilot getting assaulted to THIS! Ughh……!

Hey, extra Marriott points is definitely an important tangent! I’m with you though, I’m way too lazy to move my crap. The room has to be practically on fire or next to a jackhammer to even make me switch.

21. Captain kept insisting that the crew change hotels day to day in an attempt to keep his/her ambassador status?

Marriott only cares about nights. Hilton says that stays and nights will be weighed differently. I have no idea about the other chains.

Mostly this...

In general you get one "stay" credit per night at a Marriott property, and one "stay" credit per stay (regardless of how many nights) at a Hilton property. That said, the point values are generally better in the Hilton Honors world than they are in Bonvoy. Marriott does run a few promotions every once in a while that are based on stays, not nights.

It turns out that my life has only improved after "losing" all of my hotel-God statuses. Don't particularly miss the airlines, either.
Eh, I still get the perks of my status. I won’t complain with lounge access or points* for stays. (*not everywhere does, but usually the higher tier ones give it to me.)

I flew with a guy like that. He was trying to get his status up. I begrudgingly abided. I would have stayed at the same hotel, but this was before Uber was big and we had one rental car.

Marriott has been steadily diluting the value of the Bonvoy points over time. I need to burn what I have before - like rubles - they’re worthless.

I’ve had a goal for years to not have any top-level status with any travel until I changed careers. Achievement almost unlocked…..

If you think Bonvoy points have diluted, you should see what Hilton has done to redemptions. Granted what SPG was before Bonvoy was much better.
