Tanker accident. No fatalities

if the brakes don't work it is likely you will break something!

(us too)I did just get a tour of the new ICE facility in the bat building here at IWA....I keep asking, but nobody knows you...yet

Our former Air Branch that was there at IWA closed down about a year ago. Sucks as it was a two man, two aircraft operation that was laid back and easygoing.

Not really a curse, I'd say; considering the risks inherent in the operation they undertake.

and their aircraft are even older than ours, round motors and JATO jets...very complicated and much more maintenance intensive...they have several more aircraft than we do as well.

If someone thinks its a curse, then they would've thought some of the airtanker operators in the '60s/70's were straight from hell, what with some of the numbers of accidents that TBM-3 operators were seeing.

Just a risky mission is all.

I would LOVE to fly a TBM-3 SEAT. Seriously - I'd rather that than an Air Tractor. At least once maybe...then go to the Air Tractor...

I was just there 2 days ago. They didn't run off the runway. The hydraulics failed on the ramp and they rolled down the hill through a fence.

Incorrect. We received the notification of the accident within minutes....and the pilots were slightly injured but will recover. The aircraft is repairable.

...and if that were the case why would the left prop have been damaged in that way?

I'm up at BJC fairly often too. Not buying the "failed on the ramp" thing. Those aircraft were operating from the US Forest Service ramp just off of Alpha-15. Rolling "down the hill" could only be to the west or north, and in either case they'd have rolled off a 100' high retaining wall before they stopped.

Here's the airport diagram

From my captain who was there:

they Had a hyd malf over the fire got rid of the load and declared an emergency. The took the high speed into the ramp and the back up brake system failed. #1 caught fire when it loaded up during the hard reversal as the went through the fence.

Gotta love the armchair accident investigators here.

"No WAY this happened this way....."

How the hell would you know? I wouldn't know, as I wasn't there. And unless you were onboard the plane itself, you don't know the complete puzzle; and only a piece(s) of it if you were a witness or otherwise related to it.

Never miss an opportunity to know when to shut the hell up.

How the hell would I know? Gee, since I've only flown out of that airport an average of twice a week for the last year and a half, I guess I wouldn't have the slightest $%#*& idea how it's laid out, eh? Try taking your own advice sometime. [/overheated rant]

He was talking to the guy who said it rolled off the ramp... not you...lol

Try firing at the right target, punchy.

Guys saying what actually happened without having been there, is armchair QBing.

Now, if you're so sensitive that you're going to stand up and announce "the shoe fits me!"; well, I can't help you with that. If you weren't doing that, then you're not the target.

I am glad to hear that they are safe. It seems like there have been a lot of these accidents recently.
