Tampa Bay!!!!

I hope you are right!! Hard for me to believe though. You would have to have really good genes to get good, not being able to play on the ponds starting when you are 3 or 4. I hope it happens, it will spark more interest

Dude, there are travelling teams of six year olds now. I think that will do the trick! Six years old and travelling up and down the east coast to play hockey? Can't we just let kids be kids anymore?

Dude, there always has been.At least when I was 6 in 1990. I have nothing against Southern hockey, I am glad to see it coming around. I lived in Dallas, and Oklahoma City for a few years, and the skill of hockey there was horribleI coached and played). The best High School team would be taken out by a mid skilled group of 8th graders from Michigan. Without proper ice time, and high skill of opposing teams, the youngster never gets to see his true potential. Now, when they get more rinks built it will be a different story.

Shooter let me know if your kids need any equipment. I might be able to come up with some. Also, I have a unused helmet with cage, that would probably fit a bantam. You can have whatever you need just reimburse for shipping

I think you'll start to see more people pick up hockey -- if the NHL doesn't kill it off by a lockout/strike next season.

And that's good for the sport.

Worst thing to ever happen to baseball, and it will prob hurt hockey very similar

Sorry, that last post wasn't very clear. I'm saying that if hockey keeps on going without interruption, I think more people will start to become fans and start to play it.

If there's a lockout/strike, it will seriously damage the sport.

Hey thanks Bullmastif but they are now playing other sports and seem happy with them. If they get the hockey bug again, I may have to take you up on that.

Tampa is such a crappy city that they ran the wrong story on the Lightning winning the cup! According to the St. Pete Times paper the Lightning lost the game! Talk about support for the team!

[/ QUOTE ]
First of all, check your facts: It was the Tampa Tribune.... buried on page 16 that ran a small editorial which was written the day before just in case the team lost(which is done in every city in every state in the nation - go check your own paper's "Correction & Retractions" section genius).

Second of all - what's all this crap about no support for the team????

If I remember correctly, the 22THOUSAND seat arena was SOLD OUT for every playoff game.

Yesterday, TENS OF THOUSANDS of fans turned out for the victory parade.(20K at the parade - 13-15K at the Forum for the rally afterwards..... all during the middle of a work day)

In summary - Robair - shut the hell up, pal. You know not of which you speak!

But, then again - I see you're from Philly - Our professional teams OWN yours - How's it feel to be Tampa Bay's BITCH?!?!?

HAHAHA

I seem to remember the Eagles losing the last game in the Vet to Tampa and then losing the first game in the new stadium to Tampa. Also seem to remember the flyers getting out skated and out worked in 7 games by Tampa.

Tampa Bay is full of fair weather fans. Any team in any city can sell out an arena when they're in the playoffs. Big Deal! Where were all the fans during the season? How many sell outs during the season? I bet only when they played the Flyers. How about even close to a sell out in that big crappy arena that holds only 2k more than the flyers. That's the support I'm talking about. The Flyers sold out more than 90% of the games during the regular season.

Sure, it's easy to sell out an arena when all of your other teams SUCK! (read: Phillies and Eagles).

Average attendance at Lightening games was around 16-17K, bro. That ain't too shabby.

Like I said before... don't know where all this "fair weather fan" stuff is coming from. All you know is what your friends tell you and your friends don't know diddly.

You want to talk sell-outs? The Bucs will be sold out for the next 25 years easily. There are 108,000 folks on the waiting list.... that was happening YEARS before we won the Super Bowl....... IMMEDIATELY after destroying your Eagles and closing down the Vet.... and just a few months before destroying your Eagels and opening up..... whatever the name of ya'lls new rat-infested hell-hole is called.

(I'm diggin' this - This is fun!)

Just be careful with that bro. There was a time (early/mid 80's, Chuck Knox era) when I used to think the Seahawks would sell out every home game from now until forever. Then Ken Behring bought the team.......

Nothing lasts forever in sports. Even Shaq's fat, offensive fouling, whining, complaining, lazy a$$ will eventually retire and the Lakers will suck again.

He's just pissed 'cause philly got spanked by Tampa again. hell, I am not even really a big lightning fan and I see that. I bet you that if Detroit started playing like Washington for about 5 years, they would quit selling out too. Most sane people don't want to pay money to go watch their team lose (though I did it with the Caps 4 times this year.)

The lightning winning is a huge boost for hockey in the South. A lot of people had never really watched a game before. A lot of those are now hooked on it.

As to why it seems there are fair weather fans, it is because of college football. When all 3 major schools regularly dominate the league people get used to it.
