Taking the plunge

Well, as of next week I will officially be a full time flight instructor. Call me crazy but I decided it was time to stop wasting 8 hours of my life a day doing something just for the money. It will be a major life adjustment but between my wife and I we should be able to make ends meet.

For all you guys looking for instructing jobs out there, it's looking pretty good. Don't let anyone tell you there are no instructing jobs out there. I received 4 calls after applying to places in the first week.

Time to start edjumacating people on the fine art of flying and rack up the hours. See you all on the other side!!!

Nope!

I broke the TV habit years ago. All I occasionally watch is "Good Eats" on FoodTV and "Insomniac TV" on Comedy Central.

Beyond that, television is a dismal wasteland of lowest common denominator material.

Agreed. Why don't people read anymore? If anything I read too much... perhaps it's all the free time I have in the "off season".

Sorry Braidkid... Back on topic. Starting.... NOW!

By the way, we only had a couple inches of snow. This will now be called a "light dusting" for you. We should be coming to the end of snow season by April, so not too much longer. I should be flying this afternoon in Newport, as long as they get the runways cleared. Are you comfortable with crosswind landings? Current conditions:
KPVD 181551Z 02014KT 10SM -SN OVC016 M01/M04 A3016 RMK AO2

KUUU 181553Z AUTO 36015G22KT 5SM BR OVC008 M01/M03 A3013 RMK AO2

Winds for the afternoon flight at 1900Z

FM1800 01014KT P6SM BKN020 BKN120
FM2000 36014G24KT P6SM SCT020 BKN250

These are typical winds during the afternoon, wintertime...actually pretty straight downt the RWY. It's usually about 40-50 degree crosswind. Rwys at PVD 16-34, 05-23, UUU 16-34, 04-22, also read the post on PVD runway incursion...good reading.

You haven't done any crosswind landings until you've flown in Kansas!!
grin.gif
Since that's where I did most of my training I'm pretty comfortable with them!!

The snow better stop once i get up there!!

I'll have to check out the PVD runway incursion post...

It's hard enough for me to drive across Kansas.. let alone fly!

I remember flying in from SLC to MCI and having a 80 knot crosswind descending through 10,000 and it slowly dissolved into about a 15-20 knot cross on final, man!

The -88/-90 are so long, the cockpit is so far from the CG that it feels like you're on a merry go round!
