T-Mobile, and International flying...

For all you guys and gals that are not on T-Mobile, I'm just letting you know their deal they have going is fantastic. It's unlimited international data and texts, and $0.20/minute for calls. If you go over your "allotted data", they just throttle you back. No overages.

This is pretty much anywhere, but they do have a list if you want to check their web site for details. Also, they will pay for you to break your old contract. I switched right before I went overseas this last time, and I am a believer...no surprises on the bill, and good reception everywhere I was.

I made hte switch from verizon with no issues either. The process to get the ETF reimbursement was rather painless....

Very interesting. I'm at Verizon now and we travel to some places where another carriers coverage might not be that great. For anyone else at T-Mobile, how is the coverage outside of the more densely populated areas? Is it a lot like Sprint, where they roam on say Verizon?

Hmm! Something to look into. My worldwide data runs $64/month with AT&T and they keep trying to yank it away from me whenever I upgrade my telephone as it's not offered any more.

I went from Verizon to t mobile last fall as I bought a slingbox and wanted unlimited data that wouldn't be throttled. I must say its much worse service but it is manageable. I fly for airways and only go to medium to large cities and probably get 4GLTE about 60% of the time and I rarely get it at my home base of PHL. If I had to do it over again I'd stick with verizon.

T-Mobile doesn't have the greatest service but I am happy with it overall. Wi-Fi calling makes the few and far between extremely bad coverage areas bearable and if you get it and find that your signal is poor in your home they will send you a signal booster tower for like 7 bucks (the cost of shipping.)

I was recently in Toronto and while my phone worked, I had no data connection. First impression not so bueno.

Was just using it for a week in Canada, fantastic coverage. 3G everywhere I went (they upsell 4G for about $10, but the 3G signal was more than enough.) Just worked, no surprises.

I am using an AT&T iPhone 4s, which is not perfect in the states for coverage (it lacks a T-Mobile band), for that reason, I will probably switch to a 5s soon (for what I can sell an unlocked GSM iPhone 4s for, the price to get a 5s isn't bad though.

You also get 2.5 GB of tethering per month, free, including International tethering! The folks I was with were using my phone's hotspot for data... Not bad for $70/month...

Free blows the doors off of $64. You also tethering. And unlimited data- don't need to worry about that being yanked away. No-brainer. Don't try to use an AT&T handset though, works fine international, but spotty in the states.

I've had tmo since before they started the int'l data plans. I'm thrilled.

If you fly overseas, you won't be disappointed. I've used it on 6 continents to great success.

This is awesome, I'm driving over to tmobile tomorrow after having sprint for 1.5 years. Thanks for sharing!

It worked great for me using Skype in Siberia (Khanti Mansisk and Tyumen if you really want to know) a couple of times this rotation. I guess Siberia has better mobile data than Toronto. :D

Yeah, my bill with my wife on the plan was a little over $100. I used to pay $160ish with AT&T plus any texts, calls, etc. that went through. I had never signed up for international data, because I'm too cheap. Lol.

As long as they keep with this, I will be with T-mobile forever.

T-Mo employee here. The international data is only 2G or "Edge" speeds unless you buy a high speed data pass. Those can be pretty pricy though. Here's the link: http://www.t-mobile.com/optional-services/roaming.html

Any questions about T-Mobile service, feel free to PM me. I'll give you the honest skinny on the company, no BS.
Full disclosure: I don't work on commission and have nothing to do with the sales department.

I have have better than edge service, at least in Canada. I suspect it is somewhat country-dependent.

It may show 3G or 4G as your connection speed, but you are throttled while abroad. This is to encourage the purchase of data packages so the company can recoup some of the cost of providing the low roaming rates. Canada May be an exception, but I haven't seen mention of it in policy.

Edit: Before TMUS released this plan, it was $10/MB in Canada and $15/MB everywhere else, just to put the cost part in perspective.
