Switching Flight Schools mid-CFI training

For 9 years I've been flying with the same club from private to commercial. I started my CFI training (part-time) last year, and it has gone off the rails the last three months due to scheduling issues with instructors and airplanes. One of those months, I ended up not flying at all and I looked at airplane availability for August, and it looks like I am going to have another no-flying month (from mid-July to mid-Aug).

I am at the point of trying to find another flight school to finish my training, but would it cause more issues switching mid-stream, or should I just suck it up and do ground sessions until airplanes become available?

I want to transition to a 121 flying career, but I feel like the time its taking for this cert is going to cause me to miss out on that opportunity.

I'll call American Flyers on Monday and see what they can do. I've made the transition into a complex airplane, and essentially my focus has been on check-ride prep the last couple of flights.

American Flyers? Give them a call.
+1 on this. I did it last summer and took me 45 days for CFI/CFII. Amazing program, great instructors, and made some amazing friendships.

If you go to Addison let me know. I can give you all the details I know from last year but I highly recommend it.

I'm in a similar situation, getting tricked by the flight school and here a year later with no flight instructor certificate in hand. Planning on doing an accelerated course myself, probably starting next month. Unfortunately AF is too far for me to commute every day though.

I called American Flyers, and they seem great to work with. I also contacted a few places outside of Texas and it seems I've uncovered another delay in getting an examiner assigned. It appears I'd be 3 weeks after finishing (wherever I go) for the FAA to identify a DPE. Not so good considering I'd have to 2 weeks away from work to get this done.

I forgot about the examiner wait as my instructor told me previously he had this happen to another CFI candidate. There was a time crunch before his student moved onto another job, so he ended up calling the FSDO everyday until they finally assigned somebody, 100 miles away, they relented (after pointing out they had 5 qualified examiners with in 30mi) assigning somebody only 50mi away.

Another possibility I am considering is getting my multi-add on while I am held for airplanes or examiners. (No FSDO required).

Good Luck with your accelerated program. It might be worth traveling outside of your immediate area to get it done, but be sure you ask about the lead time for examiner scheduling.

If I may ask, where are you planning to finish your CFI?

It's basically a division of Tailwheels Etc (which is where I did my instrument training a few years ago). They actually schedule the examiner as soon as I put my deposit in so that by the time I'm ready for the ride, it's pretty soon (a business day or two) away.
