SWA TA Discussion

I feel uncompelled to pay off house early at the mortgage rate I am at, vs what I can do just lazily parking it in an account and earning more interest. Dave Ramsey will be pissed.

This kind of math I learned in the 1st grade. You know, where they teach you “greater than” and “less than”?

If most people can’t even operate at this level, and use Ramsey as some kind of touchstone of accounting brilliance, then all I can say is “daymn”.

Is it really so surprising that so many people have trouble understanding things like exponential growth, the difference between million and billion, and deep time?

I’ve been friends with two people who just got themselves into terrible debt because of “reasons.” Both are not the types who can math themselves out of debt no matter what logic is thrown their way. Ramsey worked for them because it was a method they could believe in and execute reliably. For sure, the math says they’re dumb, but heck, they are in massive debt for the same reason. Dumb got them into to it and dumb got them out.

DR is really really good at getting average Americans into a place where they can live, earn, and then retire with dignity. Probably the best, really. For many, it is all they’ll ever need.

There is a point in one’s net worth journey where it makes more sense to add to the wealth management tool box.

If, by average Americans you mean people who literally can't think for themselves, then I guess I sort of agree. No, no I don't.

Oh, look. It’s a pilot on the Internet who thinks he or she is better than nearly all fellow humans. Sit down. You’re not special here.

hah a co-worker of mine buys the Jim Cramer subscription. We laughed a bit at him, but he did accurately predict the recent BA run. Granted that was during a larger market run too. But it did convince me not to immediately sell off my company RSUs that just vested this month.

In Denver a FO could upgrade before holding summer vacation for Pete's sake.

That’s probably not that uncommon. At B6 (I think) at jfk, 320CA goes more junior than summers off.

Says something about both. Summers off are highly desireable, left seat not so desireable.

Probably similar at UA with the left seat going to new hires. Doubt a new hire FO can get summers off.

Seems like, unlike some TAs that result in member explosions of fury and outrage, this one has been more of a slow boil. As time goes on the forums are becoming more and more angry (as opposed to starting angry I suppose?)
As with many social media campaigns the outrage junkies are drawing more and more fence sitters over to their side. Roadshows won’t even begin for another week. It’s possible that the groundswell of outrage may become insurmountable for the negotiators to tamp down during roadshows.

25 days and counting… 😫

Zap, ask yourself how many forum users there really are compared to the total seniority list. What percentage of your pilot group is on the forum. When I was at Brown, I was a mod on our forum. The topic came up pretty often about our forum when I would fly with guys and I was amazed at how few really participated. I'd say maybe 25% lurk regularly and maybe 10% were regular posters. Not sure what your numbers are but I wouldn't put a lot of emphasis on the forum. Just like JC, it's easy for people to talk big on the interwebs. It's not a real representation of who they really are and how they will really vote.
