SWA fined for sick leave punishment

You can at Delta. That one guy in the news hadn’t called in sick even once. He was hailed for that.

Or course, that’s BS. Ain’t no way someone survived decades at an airline without being sick while at work. How much you want to bet some FOs caught his “allergies” over the years?
Yeah. I consider that a total clown move on his part and the fact it was on every news site. No chance that guy didn’t work sick.

That stuff makes me so mad. I refused to fly with an FO last year because he showed up so sick, there was no way he was fit to fly. I get maybe flying with the sniffles (although it is really disrespectful to other crewmembers IMHO) but when people work legitimately sick, you can tell that the corporate culture sets in on these employees. The idea that you get rewarded for no sick calls means you came to work sick as a dog and didn't give a crap about anyone else around you.

I used my first a couple months ago when I had actual COVID. I was actually feeling ok by the time the trip rolled around, was a lot of sneezing and a 12 hr fever and then a day of lethargy a few days prior, though I still had the sniffles and was testing positive.......but I decided I didn't need to maybe go kill off some old guy. Competing factors were the fact that first (crappy) day of the trip was already bought off for OE/training, and the last 2 days involved a cool layover where id see some friends. But I decided it was the right thing.

Also, Im confused about the delta dude. They don't get to stack up sick hours like we do outside the current CY, at least as I understand it. So there is literally no incentive to not use them, other than I guess a pat on the back. Unless I am mistaken here?

A new feature of PWA 2023 (2019? Whatever, the new, current book) is that the Chief Pilot’s Office is not allowed to conduct a ”good faith” inquiry into your sick leave use until you’ve expended 50 hours on a rolling 12-month basis.

Woohoo!

Brown always had a deal that after your sixth sick call in a rolling 12 months, you got a call from a management guy. Had nothing to do with how many days you took, just occurrences. I got called a few times. Just thanked them for their concern and that was it. We did get paid for unused sick time at the end of each year. I kinda liked that but do admit it creates some motivation to return to work early. My rule was if my ears clear okay and I'm not coughing every five minutes, then I'd go. I do remember one Hawaii leg where a got a tickle in my throat and just couldn't stop coughing. The F/O was pissed and I don't blame her. Had to happen on a six hour flight.

I’m imagining the FO rapidly scanning for some random missed item.

Are you guys talking about the ATL Captain who has his name on a triple?

Story time!! There I was commuting to LAX last year in the js of a DAL 220. We got up to cruise and the Captain starts talking to the relatively new FO and I. One thing led to another and the convo goes to the topic of this #1 Captain and how he was the bees-knees around HQ in ATL, meeting rooms named after him, an airplane etc. Than he proceeds to tell us: "Ya in the eyes of the company this guy was as Company Man as it gets, in reality though it didn't matter, rain or shine, holiday or not, sick or healthy my man Cal really just loved his hookers above anything else. Dubai was his favorite, but Tel Aviv and Jo-berg were up there too."

The FO and I both cracked up at that but unfortunately we were not surprised.

Sex addiction = Career success!

NOW I KNOW. Why the widebody life is seen as the pinnacle of the aviation career.

4:58 coming back from ATL yesterday and it seemed like time was moving so, so slowly.

The real bummer is there was no time for "escorts" on my 11 hour layover. Oh the huge manatee.

Years ago I was in Brisbane for CQ sim, and one of the instructors was trying to convince the captain I was there with and I that he knew this awesome massage place. He was kind of one of those sorts of guys, so we asked him about 100 times if it was THAT kind of massage place, and he insisted that it was totally legit and not like that. So we went there with him and walked through the front door, realized that none of the girls (and they were all girls) walking around inside had any pants on, and walked back out. He was super chill for our next sim session though.

What is the name and address of this place so I know to avoid it?

I knew a guy like that. He liked a massage, he'd go every week. He'd invite you to go for lunch but he wouldn't invite anyone to go to the massage place. A massage is wonderful, but getting it at a nice hotel versus in a strip mall in Northridge are two very different things, or so I've been told.

I went to the spa at the Westin we stayed at in one resort town. I got the deep tissue massage from Helga, who was clearly an enforcer from the local roller derby team or similar activity, and could have easily broken me in half without a thought. She proceeded to kneed me into a seedy lump. All I could do afterwards was pass out in my room and walk down, slowly, to the breakfast buffet the next day.
