SWA 9/14/21

I know they (and probably other majors too) lost alot of senior spatchers last year when the company offered a very nice separation package.

The regionals are going to be hiring like crazy now too to fill the losses the majors are taking. It's a damn good time to be a dispatcher.

do we have numbers or an idea of how many room early ours and at what majors?

I don’t think many left AA (because no package was offered), SW had a lot take the early retirement from what a friend said in the current class

Oh.. Important point about this listing... The "previously turned down" cooling off period DOES NOT APPLY for this round. if you applied for the August class and got the TBNT, you are NOT locked out for however long they lock you out from applying again. You are cleared to rerack and take another shot at it.

If you have designs on getting on the LUV train, this is about as good an opportunity as you're gonna have.

Remember kids, you can't win of you don't play!

they (SWA) had a grand total of 20 from the entire dispatch group (sods, ATC specialists, dispatch specialists, as well as actual dispatchers) take the buy out so no, not really that many left. The hiring is mostly for the growth of adding flights as well as to attempt to reduce the massive amounts of overtime generated from most additional Hawaii/international flying (however it is hard to hire your way out of overtime due to additional vacation that comes with the new hires as well as more people who still eventually get sick)

How is the massive overtime being generated due to Hawaii flights? Is it due to the massive time zone difference?

Well they really started upping their Hawaii flying and the nature of the way Hawaii flying is done over there with their flight planning system makes it so it isn’t realistic to dump 30 ETOPs flights on one desk. They opened several more desks which need to be covered by all shifts, plus they have an aggressive recovery plan that requires additional desks. Pair that with the OT that was already usually out there and they are, like most airlines at the moment, needing people trained and ready to go yesterday. So as stated above, the hiring is not because of the quite small number of early retirement/buy outs they had last year (20) but rather for the aggressive growth/long list of uncovered shifts on a daily basis.
