Sun N Fun

Okay, sounds like we might have a crew! Here is the link if anybody needs it. http://www.sun-n-fun.org/content/ There is no schedule posted though. How long should I plan on going, I doubt I would need 5 days? Runs April 21-26. I will likely fly in, is anybody else planning on camping? We should definately have a meet, anybody that's been have an idea on where? I would also be glad to do burger/beers at the plane as I will bring a bbq with me. Let's hear some ideas....

I've heard a lot of the ''older'' Oshkosh crowed love sun-n-fun much more.

I'm old so I should do well there. I will be thunkin on it... If I do, I would enjoy meetin and greetin you all. :hiya:

i'll be there .i think is going to be nice if we have this many people going there wooo-hoooooooooo

are you flying in or driving? im thinking about renting out one of our warriors for a day and heading over there.

naa Ill be driving. Ill be staying over night Friday and Sat and then head home Sunday. Have fun if you fly man, Ive heard its interesting to say the least

I have a question. If you are a true blue, died in the wool Oshkosh guy, is this going to be worth the trip down there? Are they (Oshkosh and SNF) the same thing or are they different? I guess my question comes down to, Is it worth it to spend the $ to go to SNF, or just wait till OSH?

I've been to both, and there is still nothing like OSH. If you can't do both, I would go to Oshkosh.

I have been once- flew a 172 in with a buddy and his girlfriend.

It was INSANE.

Alot of thoughts/planning/and briefing went into play for that.
He is a private pilot, I was a commercial/multi/IFR guy.

The event briefing video-i forget where we got it...maybe the Sun n Fun website or an FAA website- was 40 minutes long i think that year (2005), and became very familar with the planning charts, special flight patterns, and procedures.
(eg. the flight pattern of circling the lake, guy on ground directs you by radio in sequence, etc.)

All 3 of us on the plane were on the lookout for other traffic.....VERY SERIOUS and NEEDED. Could see alot of traffic.

It was a great experience and alot of fun though!

Yep. My wife was in the back seat of the 172 when we flew in. She got a REAL good picture of a Skymaster up close and personal behind us. I was trying to keep my distance on the Piper Cub in front. Interesting being between those two planes.

I'm sorry OldPete, I just saw your reply. Thanks.
Your welcome, and (off topic) but did you guys ever get a meet and greet going in Memphis. And I wish I had a chance to meet you when you were at FTY (Hooters corp thread).

As far as I know, there has been no Memphis meet & greet ,,,Yet. If we ever come up with a date and place, I'll be sure that you know about it.

I sure would have liked to have met you as well. Do you work out of there? I was at PDK last Thursday from about 10am till about 4:30pm. Had lunch at the restaurant on the airport. Parked at Epps.

Here are some fly-ins that I really like. No vendors really, and relatively small (compared to OSH and S&F). Great people though.

The National Waco Club is having their 50th anniversary fly-in this June. They are the oldest type club in existance. www.nationalwacoclub.com

The Antique Airplane Association has their annual fly-in around Labor Day in Blakesburg, Iowa. Around 300+ antiques show up. Last year featured Mail planes with the Boeing 40C, a freshly restored DeHavilland DH4, a freshly restored Jenny, the oldest Ford Tri-motor, a rare Stinson tri-motor, a couple of Stearman C3B's, and many others. Check them out at www.aaa-apm.org

There is a fly-in at Lee Bottom flying field in September - www.leebottom.com

I've been to SnF the past 3 years and to Oshkosh, once 2 years ago. Honestly, I enjoyed the heck out of both experiences and would be hard pressed to pick a favorite (Fighter Town at Oshkosh was something to see though!) If I had to choose, I'd go to Oshkosh this year just becuase I've only been once.

That said, I was on payroll to go to both, and probably will be again this year, so that might have helped me miss all the things I could have complained about. lol
