Anybody going? Anybody been? Thinking of attending for the first time, any feedback is appreciated! JOE

I'm thinking about it. Cheap airfare thanks to Allegiant and I have a buddy in Tampa.

Sounds like fun, maybe we can have a JC cocktail hour. I will likely fly over and camp with the plane. I have room(in the plane, you must bring your own sleeping bag!) if anybody is close to the Florida panhandle.

I sent an app to volunteer this year, but haven't heard back yet! If the volunteer work doesn't come through, I'll still be there! I've never been so a few of us airport guys have planned a trip! Hope to see you all down there!

I was going to fly in my avatar to sun-n-fun, but I got the boot a few days ago :whatever:

I still may go, got friends who live on the leeward air ranch (which is not too far away)

I have a question. If you are a true blue, died in the wool Oshkosh guy, is this going to be worth the trip down there? Are they (Oshkosh and SNF) the same thing or are they different? I guess my question comes down to, Is it worth it to spend the $ to go to SNF, or just wait till OSH?

I went to Sun N Fun last year for the first time, and I will be going again this year. It was incredibly cool!

PS - Get the lemonade from one of the small stands, it was DELICIOUS!

PSPS - Stuff yourself before hand, I could only find crappy, expensive food.

I love Sun N Fun. Used to go every year when I lived in Orlando. My wife and I used to drive down for a whole day, until I decided to fly in. That spoils you, and you'll never wanna drive again. I've never been to Oshkosh, but from what I've heard Sun N Fun is a mini-Oshkosh.

There's a LOT of vendors down there, so there's plenty to gawk at. The airshows are hit and miss. It's best to check out the performers before you pick a day to go since they're different day to day. I got lucky and managed to see a show with Patty Wagstaff and Michael Goulian. It was the only day that week both performers were there.

If you're gonna fly in, get the NOTAMS and know 'em. It can be sorta confusing the first time, and it's weird not reading back instructions over the radio. What they'll normally do is set up a lake as a "holding pattern." When you arrive, ATC (actually guys on the ground with hand helds) will be telling you to "find someone, get behind them and get in line." They'll call out planes by type and color "white high wing Cessna" for example, then clear you to fly over a landmark. They'll be strobes to follow to get you onto the downwind, then ATC at the airport will tell you which spot to land on. The taxiway (since the runway now has airplanes parked on it) has three spots painted on it. Land on the spot they tell you.

Getting out is a lot easier. It just takes forever. Make sure you buy tie-downs BEFORE you go. Made that mistake and had to pay for the seriously overpriced tie-downs there.

I've heard a lot of the ''older'' oshkosh crowed love sun-n-fun much more. I think it's because they were going to oshkosh before Pope Paul took over, and made the goal of oshkosh funding his citation and mustang. I hear Sun-n-fun is more of what oshkosh was in the day.

:yeahthat:

Oshkosh has all the cool toys that the manufactures bring. SnF is the good old (but freaking huge) local fly-in.

I went 2 years ago and it was great. Be careful when you fly in there. It was interesting to say the least.

Where are you located in the panhandle? Not sure that I can make it yet, but would love to catch a ride if I can. Thanks.

I was there last year.. but had no idea who the other JC'ers were. We need a place to meet or t-shirts so we know how to spot each other. It would have been nice to walk around with someone that knew more than me about planes. I'm sure I will head over this year too.
