Does anyone know anything about this operation? Quality of Maintinence, how long they have been operatings? etc.. Ill take anything.

It's Tom Cooper's new outfit...

Kids these days probably don't know or care who Tom Cooper is... unfortunately...

Those interested... take a look at this:

Sun Air Academy

Application says the standard cost is only $15000 and that includes 200 hours of quality Navajo FO time!
Application even gives you a spot to put your credit card number.

To the OP...

The routes in the PA area are Essential Air Service routes for LNS and HGR, going to Dulles. They were formerly run by Cape Air into BWI. The CEO is the same guy from Gulfstream years ago, and he'll grant you the privilege of flying those routes if you're willing to pay him.

If you're looking for flying work in the DC Metro area, there are better opportunities available and plenty of JCers are from the area as well.

They pay being offered is allot but there are no health benefits. Class starts in a week. Was unsure about the maintenance or other gotchas with the company. The EAS routes I assume is govt funded hence empty airplanes but ultimately it does not matter since its not them trying to make money here per say they have already made it from a grant or something of the sort.

You must be going for captain then.

Thats not how EAS exactly works. They get paid on a per flight basis to fly the route, profit comes based on how many seats they fill.

Out of Pit, they are flying to Lancaster, Altoona, Jamestown NY, Venango County and Bradford.

That is not what we are talking here. That is a different program within the same company.

Same company, so it makes no difference. Still puts a bad mark on the company.

If you were a Captain there, would you want an FO that earned a spot based on knowledge, skill, and merit -- or would you rather have someone who has deep pockets and can simply afford to go further into debt.

There are much, MUCH better options out there.

That same sort of mentality (airplane is empty, but it is okay the government is paying) is what has nearly put Silver out of business. The money the government pays does not cover the cost of operating an empty airplane- whether it be a Navajo, Caravan, Saab, or 1900. At some point passengers are required to fill the rest of the void and each airplane has a "break even" point before any profit can be made in an EAS operation.

The orange site says they don't pay during training, for travel to and from, and double occupancy hotel rooms.

Eff that in the eh.
They don't pay for the hotel rooms, you do.

Though I just looked at their latest ad and they have once again halved their training prices.

Initially it was $20,000 back in the summer and then it dropped to $10,000 around Aug/Sept. Now it is down to $5,000... I guess they have had no luck, which is nice to see pilots are taking a stand for themselves.

I work at PIT and see their planes often, but I have only seen one possible passenger on all of the flights I have seen so far. I say possible because I couldn't tell if it was someone or just a headrest that looked like someone.
