Sun Air Express

Hmmm this also confirms they are running single pilot as well.

Edit: Never mind, just noticed it was only a ferry flight

My buddy was in the run up pad and considered evasive taxi maneuvers. I'll be very interested to hear the story on this one, sure looked like at least one engine had power looking at the prop...

Im not sure how you land short of the runway due to engine failure n an empty chieftain.
I was wondering the same thing...

The only thing that I can think of is if he was on short final and slowed down too quickly and got below VMC and was not able to power out in time with the reduced power of the good engine.

Yep, that one is a head-scratcher . . . wouldn't be the first time that news report don't get the whole story right though!

The nice thing about the Aviation Safety wikibase is that corrected or augmented info can be entered after the initial entry.

With flaps and gear out it's a drag machine so I guess I could see if he didn't plan his approach well, had the plane dirtied up and had to level I could see getting slow and having to sacrifice altitude to keep it above VMC. Still, I would think that if you were empty you'd have to screw the pooch pretty hard to do that.
