For my daily flights I use a small, two pocket bag from (GASP!) Wal-Mart. It's about 5 x 6 x 10. I think it was around 9 dollars and it holds my headset, sectionals, spare batteries, handheld radio, kneeboard (with paper, pencil, pen, grease pencil, E6-B, local chart, etc), pencils, sunglasses, leatherman, fuel tester, and flashlight. I keep my local approach plates in the knee board, but if I'm actually on an IFR plan or an XC, I'll either bring another small bag with the necessary stuff or bring my 'real' flight bag.
It's made by Eastsport and can be found in the . . . uh . . . same section as women's purses . . .
I don't have a place to post photos to link to, but PM me your e-mail and I can send you a picture. Despite being in the women's section, the bag is plenty "pilot manly" and I'd guess almost half of the people flying out of my school use one for daily, local flights.
