Suggestions for flight bag

I am a student pilot getting ready to head for a flight academy and am looking for a flight bag to hold all my stuff. How big, how small what are the necessities to be in there? Any good ones stand out in?

For me...a paperback book, cell-phone charger, and lots of snacks!!!!

Really, a flashlight, PTS, notebook, sectionals, fuel strainer, pens and pencils, highlighters, plotter, E6B, calculator...

what am I missing?

For my daily flights I use a small, two pocket bag from (GASP!) Wal-Mart. It's about 5 x 6 x 10. I think it was around 9 dollars and it holds my headset, sectionals, spare batteries, handheld radio, kneeboard (with paper, pencil, pen, grease pencil, E6-B, local chart, etc), pencils, sunglasses, leatherman, fuel tester, and flashlight. I keep my local approach plates in the knee board, but if I'm actually on an IFR plan or an XC, I'll either bring another small bag with the necessary stuff or bring my 'real' flight bag.

It's made by Eastsport and can be found in the . . . uh . . . same section as women's purses . . .

I don't have a place to post photos to link to, but PM me your e-mail and I can send you a picture. Despite being in the women's section, the bag is plenty "pilot manly" and I'd guess almost half of the people flying out of my school use one for daily, local flights.

I can't remember the name, but if you PM "Aloft", he knows a good company as well.

Or just scroll up: Wm226 is on it like a jimmy hat.

Now when are you gonna get back to me on ad pricing, herr Webmeister?

Throw in a knee board too (as mentioned above)... you need somewhere to write and stick stuff when in the plane. Cockpit organization!

Plus you can feel cool like the "IRON EAGLE"... ONE VISION!

(sorry, it was on TV this weekend... nothing like racing a 152!)

I've got the Sky High bag and love it. Holds two headsets (One of them being a Lightspeed 20 3G, so it can hold big ANR headsets fine), and more stuff than I care to think about right now. You'll fit whatever you need in it.

Cheers

I have a medium size Cenecal bag, and it is nice, but all I ever take with me anymore is my headset, a notepad, Jepps or sectionals depending on the flight and a pen. Everything else is sitting in my closet collecting dust while my headset, Jepps and a St. Louis VFR Terminal Area chart sit in my car not taking up near the space the flight bag did. Like someone said in an earlier thread, it seems the more I fly the less stuff I actually take with me.

Best Movie ever! Don't forget the tape player strapped to the knee!

Another vote for the Sky High gear bag. Holds everything you need and is very well thought out. Big enough but not too big like some ive seen out there. Has a nice GPS poket as well.

Almost forgot. Royal Bag in Korea makes excellent bags. They are located outside the gate at Osan AFB in Korea. Bought a dive bag from them. Made very well and has lasted a long time. Didnt buy a flight bag but wish i would have. Check out there website at Royal-Bag.com.
Many other military guys swear by them. You can read about Royal on the Aptap.org forum. http://forumco.com/aptap/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=4015&FORUM_ID=11&CAT_ID=6&Topic_Title=Flight+Bags&Forum_Title=APTAP+Message+Board
