My wife and I have been together for 10 + years and married for 5+ of them.

I think the key to our success was me being very up front with her about all the up/downs (no pun intended) and time away involved with my career. The key here was communication. I personally do not go and bid on bases, equipment types etc without discussing it and how things will change from what they are currently.

My wife has been very supportive of my career and that support has been invaluable.

My in-laws just celebrated 31 years 2 months ago, fil always been a pilot. His brother has been married for over 20 years, always been a pilot.

I put a huge ditto on it isn't the career as much as it is the people. My husband isn't a professional pilot but half (if not over) the people he works with are divorced at least once.

Honestly, this career can be havoc on many things your life. It has turned into a snowball of problems for me. I'm sure you have read my thread and yes, it is very negative. Buddy, if there is a dead end in aviation my luck is bound to find it. Don't follow me. Good luck to you, my friend.

This is not aviation specific, but similar and from what I gather very rare. My high school girlfriend and I stayed completely together (no breaks, etc.) through four years of college and those colleges were no where near each other. She was the right girl and we were in it to win it, so it worked. We are now happily engaged :)

It's about being flexible, open and honest. It's about supporting the other even when they haven't asked. It's about maintaining intimacy--more than just sex; instead in every aspect of the relationship.

so what's your tactic for when you're in a low (and/or issues) and trying to come out of it?
