Stupid noisy airplanes!

Phantom017

Up up and awaaaaayyy!
So I have flown out of at least 3 airports now that have been around for well more then 60 years and have residents, well below that age, who find it necessary to move near the airfield and then complain about the noise. (1 was a Class C airport.)

Seriously... did you not see the airplanes flying around when you were house hunting. Why do you expect everyone to now change everything because you moved in the neighborhood. Lets shut down the airport and ban all flights except when you want to go somewhere.

Why is it that airplanes are ugly and noisy and annoying, until you need to take one to your summer vacation spot or to go shopping with mimi in vale?

I just find it rediculous that some people have nothing better to do with their time then try and disrupt the lives of those at the airports. Its becasuse of this airport that your "city" is a city and not some little hovel. Hey if you would rather have that "ugly" airport look like a city park move to Chicago. I hear they have a nifty way of making that happen on a whim.

/end rant.

Sorry just had to vent. Heard some info about some spoiled little rich ladies deciding to have a little crusade against those little noisy contraptions called aeroplanes:banghead:.

Same thing happened to DIA (Denver International). That's why they had to move years ago. Now the homeowners that built near the new place started complaining about the noise. Wait a second... You agreed to wave your rights to file complaints against noise from the airport in your homeowners agreement. What? :)

I always liked the sign at the main gate of Cherry Point MCAS, it falls along these lines.

It says "Pardon Our Noise, It's the Sound of Freedom"

They wanted to close Reid-Hillview out in San Jose until they realized that when they replaced it with medium-density housing, it'd actually just extend the ghetto in which it sat in!

Love crime? Close that mid-town airport! :)

I worked the graveyard shift at the local FBO on the weekends when I first started instructing, to make ends meet. I would get a call at 3am about airplanes flying around. I would just tell them to move away from the airport and hang up. The airport has been around since the 60's, I believe.

Makes you wonder why no on ever complains about the noise of trains from the railroad tracks they moved by.

Which is actually funny because when I went up to C-bus, OH to find a place to live a few years ago, I ended up getting wicked ill on some blue cheese potato skins the night before. Got to the first apartment and said "this will work, I'm going home" and cut them a check.

Moved in a few weeks later and realized my apartment was 40-yards from an active rail line. Doh!

It's an old problem...nothing new. Just search "scottsdale airport" here and you'll see. Problem is, GA is seen by the public who knows no better as a bunch of rich guys with their airplane toys, hence GA airports don't always have the best ground to stand on when it comes to community complainers, no matter how long the airport was there first, or no matter how much the buyer was dumb for buying a place next to and airport. It sucks, but it's one of the biggest reasons that airports aren't able to fight well against being closed at worst, or having severe noise abatement procedures and limited operational times implemented, at best.

I have a theory. I call it the "Land of Delusion". A lot of people in the western world are deluded, thinking their opinion matters and that any affront to what they deem "okay" should be immediately punished, as if they were royalty with an army to back them up.

Tell them thanks for the input and laugh.

They still want to close it, this crap comes up every two years. It's been a blight on the airport. Can you imagine being a business owner and needing, say, a new roof but your 50 year master lease expires in 2 years and nobody will even mention renewing it?

I wouldn't buy the new roof either.

My favorite quote from a "close the airport" article was in regards to Montgomery Field in San Diego... it started "Our once quiet neighborhoods..."

Seeing that I had to wonder... how long has it been since their neighborhoods were quiet? Well It turns out that Gibbs Field opened on that spot in 1937, so 73 years now.... oh yeah, and there were no neighborhoods there when the airport opened.

If you moved into your dream home and all of a sudden there are airplanes buzzing around over your house, sue your realtor. I'm sure the money you get will more than make up for whatever mild annoyance you're making a huge deal out of.

I used to live on the approach path to Rickenbaker in Columbus - loved hearing FedEx's DC-10s when they flew over. What the hell is wrong with these people?

The part that really bothers me is that they don't wanna hear airplanes, but they don't wanna drive 45 minutes to the airport.

PICK ONE PEOPLE!!

What I heard, at an airport planning meeting once, was that 90% of the complaints come from one or two people who have nothing better to do. I have faith, (most likely misplaced,) that most people get it.

That actually sounds about right. Probably the same people who run Homeowners Associations and make rules about what kind of vehicle you're allowed to park in your driveway.
