STS-135 - Final Atlantis Launch

latest update:

Fueling of space shuttle Atlantis’s external fuel tank with more than 500,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen began on time at NASA Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Pad 39A at 2:01 a.m. EDT. The launch team will closely monitor the weather throughout the process. Weather remains at a 30 percent chance of favorable weather for liftoff at 11:26 a.m. Teams are not working any issues that would delay the launch.
I hope ya'll get to see the launch! Wish i could be there instead of here, doing this :)

Are you still planning to meet up tonight either in Orlando or over there? What are the details?

I'm on a bus headed to the causeway viewing site. Been in stop and go traffic for about an hour. Looks like low clouds moving in from the west.

That was some kinda awesome, and too funny. Launch hold at T-31 for a retract glitch. Kudos the the Cape guys for really working that issue as quickly as they did within the ten minute window. They were working their behinds off to identify, isolate, troubleshoot and resolve it as quickly as they did to pick up the count for launch.

They were awesome!

Party time!

"Screw this, we're going!"

That was fantastic and I was so glad and so thankful that I was able to see it live with my little boy! Hope it inspires him to reach for the stars!

That is awesome! He will remember it forever and look back fondly on his time spent with you.

Glad you got there and they could get off the ground!
30% chance of going.. with many in the media saying it was a waste of energy and time to even bother.. and what do you know? They launch!

Being there is beyond inspirational; I remember my first launch in person when I was 9 like it was yesterday.

Ugh. Just took us 5 hours to get from the causeway back to our hotel in Orlando. Still worth it but SOOO tired.

I do too...i had such a great time at the first launch i went to as well (in my college years). It really was awe inspiring.

it was still amazing to watch it on the boob tube this morning. I realized had i been there in person, i wouldn't have been able to watch as much as i like to typically watch (which is up until the shuttle unhooks from the main tank). I have always thought the new camera (on the tank) were the awesomest addition to the launches.

now if they had only kept rolling so people could see how the camera shots are taken of the bottom of the shuttle (to check the tiles) and how gravity plays a part in the tank coming back down to earth (using the same velocity/altitude info as it comes down)....that too could be a learning factor, not to mention just plain neat to watch!

That was really an awesome launch! I drove from the launch to my mom's house in Naples and it took me about 5 hours. :) Traffic going south on 95 from Titusville was not bad at all.

So glad I decided to come down for the launch. I got into Titusville around 4AM and got a front row spot on the Max Brewer bridge. Really awesome view.

Anybody see John Olliver's report from the launch on the Daily Show last night?! Classic!
