Spirit

only in the aviation world - one would have to pay to get into a job fair. Aero crew could easily charge all the recruiting airlines and not have to charge our pilot pool, who do not make a whole lot to begin with. I have never heard/witnessed in the world of IT or business.

Regardless, wish you all the best of luck!
You can complain about it or you can bite the bullet. The choice is yours..

Oh i have been on IT before, you should have seen it around 2001

Of course, I was complaining! And thats the first step in correcting what most would consider completely unfair. Btw, I have seen similar issue with AV job sites as well. I am sure many will "bite the bullet" and poney up the money but I think pilots a whole need to find a way to change this and other similar unfair practices.

I have been in IT since 1993 (since 1995 as a FT professional) and I have not witnessed what you just mentioned, especially about 2001. Yes, pre market and post market crash of 2000, wee two different markets. However, even post market crash and as recent as the last few years of lukewarm IT market, I have not seen similar practices in IT. But my experience and my response is only based on East Coast as well as experience with Sys Admin/Architect/Developer positions in IT.

What I take from this discussion is that perhaps a few just feel that "it is what it is." However, I am willing to bet there are a few others who may want to help change the practice in the future though ;) And as I said earlier, that starts with just a simple discussion and complaining ;)

How to change? Just on high level: Like minded, professional and may be senior pilots, who have the luxury of venturing into this arena by playing in the same field and utilizing their experience to trump the current day practice. Others can disagree and/or offer alternate ways of dealing with this.

End note: I am sure you have plenty of experience in the world of aviation (mine is only 13 years) and probably think "resistance is futile." Lets continue discussing in the future how to change these practices and help our professional pilot lot. ME - I am just aiming to hold my steadier, much better paying day job and perhaps become a CFI to continue enjoying the world of flying.

Best regards.

Hay I would love to change and while you guys work on that I will be going because I want something better and if I can invest something to have a better job I will it is like school you get what you pay for

Bump this thread, hopping on a plane at 5:15 AM tomorrow - SEA-PHX then on to LAS, excited to head to my first airline career fair!

I was trying to save a couple of hundred but may ended up getting burned as all of sudden the LAS flights are booked solid. I've been lucky as getting bumped has only happened to me a handful of times in the last few years. Holding my breath that one of the next few flights will work out.

I got bumped off my flight, on the jet bridge, when a ticketed pax showed up at literally the last second.

Finally got out to Vegas after getting bumped off several flights. Now trying to get back with the same luck...lol

I enjoyed the job fair and talking with Spirit, hopefully I will get a call. I definitely have to thank the Spirit staff for staying late and making sure they talked to everyone.

It was also nice to meet nmineau, psycho, and some other who names escape right now on 4 hours of sleep.

They really stayed long enough to meet with everyone? I figured there were 180 people waiting to talk to them, and they said they were going to spend 5 minutes apiece with them.. That is like 15 hours, but that is impressive they stayed to talk to everyone. I was pretty intimidated at the presentation as I wasn't sure how many people were there for Spirit and how many were they for the rest of the regional airlines, was amusing, like 200 for spirit, 30 for the next presenter, then 15, then 10, and it didn't go back up until Ameriflight presented.

There were 230-300 people waiting to meet with them. Yes, Spirit stayed late and talked to everyone. The speed went up and down. It started really slow, flew some of the middle numbers, and then slowed again around 190 until i went through in the low 200's. A lot were there for the regionals as well. A lot of pilots had hard time getting out to vegas and missed the presentations. There were several of us alone that took us over 30 hours just to get a flight out of Detroit. I also had a hard time non-revving out and ended buying a ticket dirt cheap on Spirit's red eye back to Detroit.

Glad to hear it (sort of) worked out, hope you get an interview!
