Spirit

The preferential mins at Spirit are 4000... they'll consider less with other factors that push you ahead (4 year degree, check airman/ ip , multiple types , a320 type , ect...)

Nope. All military. 3700TT, 2300TPIC, four year degree, IP, evaluator, Chief Pilot, three (worthless) types.

It's looking more and more like a stint at AE is in my future.

That may be the sticking point considering sub 4000tt...
You're probably right. I'll just have to ask about that at the next Spirit job fair. If that's a definite, I might just save the money and not go. I've spent $2K going to the previous two.

Might have to do some time at a regional. At least Eagle will give you some hiring bonus. Or try Atlas Air.

I doubt a military trained pilot with 3700 hours is going to be turned down based on TT. It would most likely be 121 time.

Its ok, Im sure fedex would have no problem recruiting him.

I'm going to get crucified for saying this, but I actually preferred Spirit over FedEx.

QOL is more important than pay to me, the shorter trip lengths, the potential for upgrade, the Spirit domiciles (I know they change at a moments notice), the business plan, new aircraft, the chance to be at or near the ground floor of something exciting in its growth potential, I've got a lot of excitement in wanting to work at Spirit.

I'll go with who hires me and be grateful they decided to take a chance on me, but I do have preferences on who I'd like to go to.

Toss your resume in regardless of what you think and give it a try. You may be pleasantly surprised.

Oh, I have. And attended two job fairs. What I need is patience. PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE.

I have my application out at other airlines, I'll just have to see what happens

Won't get crucified by me. I've got a lot of friends at FedEx that were willing to go to bat for me. Kind of the side benefit of living in Memphis for so long, I guess. Honestly, FedEx was my #5 choice. Sure, the pay and benefits are nice, but after commuting in the middle of the night so much, I decided that's not what I want to do for the rest of my career. I can handle the occasional red eye where I am now, but flying from JFK-MEM at midnight then flying MEM-OAK, sleep during the day and then more night flying for the next several days? I don't think I'm cut out for that. There's a reason the pay and benefits are good there. As for domicile choices, my goal is to not have to commute for much longer. Everyone of FedEx's domiciles would keep me commuting. I'm not moving back to MEM, and really the only one I would move to is in Germany, which creates a new list of situations.

That's a good strategy.

I'd suggest you look at a bigger picture, though, than Spirit having better QOL than Fedex. Fedex is a huge airline that has something for everyone QOL wise. Don't get overly focused on one issue with respect to QOL. For example, one might live in a city that Spirit has a base and hence choose them for a career. The big picture is Fedex has a lot better staying power and has a lot of advantages. Take a random sample of Spirit pilots and see if they would trade numbers with date of hire and see what they say. I'd wager most would trade jobs with Fedex in a heartbeat. And I'm not dissing Spirit at all, but as a guy who's been around 121 for a while, the job isn't in the same league with Fedex. You get some seniority with Fedex and you can find day flying and live where you want and make as much as a widebody F/O as a Capt at Spirit.

Lastly, you are very well qualified to work in the biz. There was a time where you'd have multiple interviews at top tier jobs with your background. I hope that time comes around again.

I appreciate all the advice, since I don't even know what I don't know, I listen and digest it all.

I've got a lot of friends at FedEx, guys I've flown with, went through pilot training with, guys I volunteer at OBAP with, even one guy that was my instructor at the track, to a man, they love it, but they also say FedEx is not without its issues as well.

I heard one issue Spirit may have with guys like me is the FedEx-issue. That if they hire me, I'm apt to jump to FedEx as soon as they call. I'm not saying this is true, I just wish I heard this before the last job fair, I could've been more persuasive in my argument on why they should hire me.

I'll have to make a better impression if I go to the job fair in Chicago.
