Spirit MEC shenanigans

My DH (and I am through explaining what that means) who actually flew during this time said that, besides weather, the delays were FA related. Bean counters got the great idea to save money 319/320 by having chasers instead of scheduling extra FA's for the 320. He doesn't know what the pilots gave up because he hasn't encountered a single pilot who gave up anything. He flew his regular schedule on time all the time.

It's not Deadhead so I'm gonna go with Designated Husband :D

Meh...while I'm not happy about the relief that was provided without FIRST securing guarantees to follow, I am willing to see this play out. As it stands now, all the rhetoric about the MEC this, and the MEC that, are nothing more than unsubstantiated speculation and fear mongering. It's been an 'all hands on deck' situation down in OCC. People from all departments have been manning the phones to help regain control of the operation. Rumor has it several crew schedulers walked off the job last week...guess that's what happens when you work everyone to the bone and do not provide adequate resources to perform the intended job. Same goes with the endless outsourcing of jobs...difficult to provide a consistent product when they have zero investment in the product they're selling. But hey, what do I know, I'm not some MBA executive...

Management continues to say they're looking to secure a deal prior to the beginning of Section 6 negotiations. Well...now they have their opportunity to prove their appreciation/ sincerity, instead of providing nothing more than lip-service. So, if the upcoming pre-negotiation round (later this week, I believe) doesn't come with stellar results, I think some within the MEC will be gone. I'd say there's a very real possibility some within management will be gone as well before year's end due to their incredible mismanagement of the operation. They saved thousand to burn through millions when their little skimping project melted down. Epic Fail!!!

It's true many pilots have been cruising along unscathed, but to be fair, many did (and continue to) have their schedules disrupted/ extended directly related to the contractual relaxation provided by the MEC. Definitely not trying to take a jab at you HRDiva, just pointing out significant CBA modification was granted even though it didn't directly affect everyone...myself included...it has provided scheduling efficiencies the company would otherwise never had been able to take advantage of. It's been a great week to be in training!

To suggest otherwise is comparable to what this guy thinks he's proving:

If I was the MBA executive making these decisions, I'd say I'm successful in a huge way. I've gotten an entire pilot group to think that Spirit almost went out and that there would be no future, got the union leadership to cave on the CBA for 5 days to recover, and got regular employees to cover the phones when schedulers quit.

Next meltdown........... "Don't worry sir, the employees will pick up the slack. It's still cheaper for us to do this and run our operation this way."

As for the guys thinking they are going to get a kick azz contract '15, good luck with that. You're off to a pretty terrible start with your leadership showing they'll cave at the slightest hint of management tough-ness. Why should they give even an inch when your leadership willingly throw their hands up? It certainly won't be "out of the goodness of their hearts."

Well, without them providing the kick azz contact, as you put it, I'd say the MEC leadership will be done and the next round will be in. That'd be the end of 'working together' as mgmt knows it. But I'm no one important...so I really don't know. Guess we're all in the 'wait and see' camp right now.

Problem is, the MEC leadership just started after the previous recall. Yet another recall run is just going to show management that the pilot group has become a joke. I mean no offense, but that is exactly how it's going to come across to them.

Of course I'm rooting for a kick ass contract for ya'll. And jetBlue. We just voted in ALPA so you two getting good contracts, along with Delta, will only further help our case.
