Spirit Furloughing

VIL's are a solution when you need to reduce staff, but for a shorter period of time than a furlough. Furloughing is expensive and you probably need to have people on the street for over two years for them to be cost effective.

Unfortunately in a single aircraft type operation, the ROI time for a company is a whole lot shorter. For four fleet types, we figured about 20 to 22 months. For a single fleet it's probably much closer to 4 to 6 months.

Why aren't they asking the union for VIL's.
No furloughs until September. Just toss the FUD flash bang in the pilot lounge now. Once everybody is disoriented then you can really toss in more FUD. Announce another 100 furloughs in about June. Then you get big concessions just in time to keep almost everyone on property.

Not much to add for the moment but to say good luck Spirit folks, hopefully those affected land on their feet. Communities like this are of course awesome and hopefully someone can benefit if in need.

Especially after all the attrition you’ll see between now and June, due to guys jumping ship. Which may have been the plan all along.

Announce furloughs 5 months out, sit back and let the pilot group purge itself.

Who is still hiring this summer besides American?

The engines are an issue but I don’t believe they are as big of an issue as everyone is trying to turn it into, they just make a nice excuse. We haven’t turned a profit since 2019, our management is subpar and doesn’t seem to have any idea. Unless they get someone new in here and make more cuts spirits new “chapter” will be bk. I’m just sitting here wondering if my ltd will still pay if we do declare bk.

Isn’t Delta still hiring? I also thought UPS opened hiring after getting the USPS contract.
I don’t know, I guess they aren’t as Boeing dependent so probably. When is UPS going to start classes? My WAG is not for a bit yet. Hopefully there’s enough hiring to offset any actual furloughs.

Yah I believe the green light is still on at delta, at slightly reduced numbers this year compared to the last couple.

Just about everyone is still hiring other than SWA and FedEx. United is, albeit classes are stopped July and August iirc and they start back every Tuesday after that. American is still hiring as well as Delta. 1000 for the year comes to mind for Delta but someone will correct me. As far as UPS idk when they plan on starting classes. I’m thinking the process is going to be quick though if they want to have the USPS contract fully integrated into the system by September.
