Spirit Contract Now

Yea a 4th year AA bus FO makes 25/hour more than a 4 year spirit captain.

I didn't realize their pay was that low until I looked it up. That's wild
I guess you were not around when we went on strike in 2010 for that contract that resulted in pay rates at the high end of the pack. The comparable that kept us down was US Airways that had CA rates topping out at $123/hour. Seven years later it is terribly out of date. Five years later (when it became amendable, it was terribly out of date). But I always said it would be my last contract and it was. I hope my former coworkers get a great contract soon.

Nope I wasn't. My comment was in the context of the last couple years. I just haven't seen the Spirit rates so it was surprising to me.

I'm sure those guys will get a well-earned raise soon.

I saw that you just retired (congrats!), but I hope you'll continue to wear that battle star pin with pride!

It surprises me how often people say " well I would love to go to Spirit but the pay is so much less" as if they don't know we are one of the last groups to get a contract in this new era of airline pay scales.

I made out like a bandit on this before, bought at $18, sold at $60. Bought it back at $33, again sold at $60!

Is third time a charm...like you, the gamble becomes do I buy it back one more time? Not sure yet.

I took the gamble today. I'm in to Spirit for more than a new QX60, at $37 and change.

So Get your arse back to work, slackers.

Striking could really tank the stock. It's a big concern of mine seeing how they are going down that path.

It could, but I don't see it being that dangerous. They are going to get a new contract, and while it won't be industry leading, it will be fair. It's a hell of a lot cheaper to pay the pilots than it is to continue with the current rate of cancellations. I don't think a strike will actually happen.

As an investment goal I'm looking toward a 10% gain in 6-8 months, nothing like the dramatic gains a lot of people are screaming about. But I'm a long haul investor. This capital has mostly come from selling Tesla, so 'losing' on Spirit is a reduction in profit for the year, rather than my next mortgage payment.

@Cruise , you want to talk about the latest email from the MEC?

Sure, what part would you like to talk about? That the MEC voted 100% in favor of a strike authorization vote? I'm all for it. I understand why they've waited so long to get to this point. Not pleased about the wait, but I do understand it. I'm fairly optimistic the vote will be overwhelmingly in support of strike should we ever reach the point of being released by the NMB (although I also think there is near zero chance that will happen).

Stock is down into the $35's anyone know what is going on? Wall Street think a strike is on the way?

I'm confused as its trading at a lower multiple than the legacies yet is growing at a 15%+ clip a year. Looks like a lot of big money is bailing on it.

Drive down of stock for a Frontier buyout? Or vice versa?

It would benefit Frontier yes. It's a pretty thinly traded stock and fairly low value but still someone is selling a lot today. All in the last few hours.

I've heard if they merge a joint contract will most likely go to mediation and set the clock back on negotiations. I'm guessing this is what one set of management has in store.

Not much to add aside that I hope you guys get a solid contract. Been riding on Spirit lately for the commute and all the crews are downright awesome. Always appreciate the ride and hospitality.

All of the airline stock is down at the moment. The 5-day graph for Alaska, United, Delta, Southwest, Jetblue, and Spirit all look pretty similar.

Spirit is killing my portfolio. I bought it at $50, sold it at $45 during the plunge, and bought back in around $39.

A contract would be amazing to come back too, and icing on the cake for the stock price.

Sold today. Couldn't take it. It was supposed to be a quick pop after buying but that went out the window. It's become unhinged from the general market when the Dow went up 200 it dropped a buck, that's concerning to me. Strike vote results are due on Sept 8 I think that's going to really crater it.

I'm really confused because it's trading for 2013 prices which to me is just asinine. I don't make the market so whatever. It is what it is.
