Speed Vs. Dollars

I can't comment on the UK's system, as I'm not familiar with it. I am familiar with ours, and I know it to be unfair.
The fact that you've bought an airplane and plan on flying it as you did the aircraft in your previous job might temper your opinions. I await with great anticipation your first complaint about operating your Mooney.

Hey @ATN_Pilot - what are the odds you start a thread when you get the plane? Picks, news, etc. Can be a running thread you can update when you do mods.

Works for me. I'll post a few pics when I pick it up this week, and I'll let everyone know just how many times @PhilosopherPilot had to hit me upside the head during the checkout flight as I try to figure out this GA thing again. :)

It may have nothing to do with flying technique...I can't discount the fact that it may simply be fun to hit you upside the head. One thing it always seemed like to me was people complaining about Mooney's floating on landing. Same people always seemed to fly pattern and such faster than I did. Not sure if Philosopher pilot has noticed this with people or not but I never had an issue with floating. Also they can do a fair amount of crosswind. You'll enjoy it.

If you're complaining about floating, you're coming in too fast.

Agree - just seems people are more apt in a Mooney to carry more speed. Your statement also doesn't apply to long-wing T-crafts. If a 7 year old standing in proximity to the runway sneezes it will float.

I *think* with Mooneys it's a demographic thing rather than an aircraft thing...the stereotype I've seen before is the rich guy with his travel machine who isn't terribly proficient, only flies to 5000'+ runways, and is more afraid of stalling if he gets under 100 knots than he is of running off the end of the runway. Also seen often with Cirrus pilots.

If you carry extra speed they do float, but if you cross the fence on ref it lands great.

I've got a buddy that lets me use his Mooney.... while it's far from my favorite GA plane to fly, being on speed on that squatty thing is of absolute importance. Cross the threshold on speed with a good energy trend and cut the power and it works out great every time.

This always works for me.

-Aim 500' short, with desired flap setting and power to maintain AS
-Reduce power over your aimpoint and transition (the rest of the power will bring you in nicely)
-Flare once within touchdown zone while bringing power back to idle simultaneously

I've seen some Mooney pilots who are afraid to get slow, and by slow I mean on speed. So they haul ass with half flaps. I really think its a result of poor airmanship and lack of confidence.
I don't get this. There are slower airplanes that have far more aggressive stall.
